Ryan's POV
Brendon had no right to break up with me without an explanation! I got to my second period class ten minutes late. I probably would've found the class faster if I hadn't been so angry. I played the new kid card and simply told the teacher I got lost.
Spencer, the kid I sat next to in Zoology, was in this class too. I faked a smile and sat down next to him.
"What did Brendon want?" Spencer asked, nervously. This poor kid had been beaten up by Brendon and the other popular kids last year. I felt bad for him, but now I was starting to understand his hate for Brendon. Although Brendon hadn't dumped this kid, he'd just given him a black eye.
"He wanted to dump me," I said, tonelessly.
"Oh, do you think-?" Spencer trailed off, obviously choking on what words to use.
"I don't think he'd beat me up, but I know Jon would be happy to," I muttered darkly.
Spencer nodded slowly. He seemed to be trying hard to foreshadow something dark. Then again I might just be getting paranoid.
For the rest of the class I tried to think of what Brendon had meant by saying, "I don't want you hurt."
The bell rang and I was too lost in thought about Brendon to really listen to Spencer's constant banter.
I followed him to the lunchroom. Once we got there, I immediately saw Brendon sitting at a crowded lunch table. He looked as depressed as I felt. Jon was sitting next to him. I recognized Pete, the kid who had been talking to him in Zoology. Pete saw me looking and whispered something to Brendon, who looked up at me as I turned away.
I felt my phone vibrate as I left the lunchroom with Spencer.
Brendon had texted me.
I'm sorry. Please meet me after school.
I texted him back quickly.
No.
Brendon continued to beg me through texts. I spent lunch ignoring Spencer's rather desperate attempts to start a conversation. Brendon's last text before the bell rang read;
Jon and Pete are in your next class. Please ignore them. Anything they tell will probably be a lie to get you aggravated.
I shut my phone with a sigh and put it in my pocket.
"What's wrong now?" Spencer asked as we walked.
"Brendon texted me to warn me about Jon and Pete being in my next class," I stated rather bored. I could tell I was getting more depressed.
Spencer didn't have my next class, so I had to go to it alone.
I was surprised when I got outside my creative writing class to see Jon and Brendon having an argument while Pete watched. I tried to listen without being noticed.
"Don't mention that to him or I will kill you," Brendon threatened through gritted teeth.
I could only assume he was talking about me. I just didn't understand why he cared about me all of a sudden. He was the one who broke up with me...
"Brendon, you couldn't kill me on you're best day," Jon sneered viciously.
"Jon, this would be so much easier if we just never talked about him and I'd like to at least try to get over him," Brendon said, hands clenched into fists.
"Fine as long as you agree to come to the party on Friday."
Brendon mumbled something too low for me to hear.
"Don't tell me you have plans. You don't have your little boy-toy, remember?" Jon smirked as he spoke.
"Fine," Brendon said in defeat. "I'll be there on Friday. If there's no booze I'll just be a depressed mess," he called to them as he walked away, hands in his pockets.
I felt like running after him. I actually understood that he hadn't wanted to break up with me. He really thought Jon or someone was going to hurt me. I waited until Jon and Pete were inside the class before I pulled out my cell phone and texted Brendon.
You can come over to my house after school.
I stashed the phone into my pocket and went inside the class.
Jon and Pete smirked at each other when I got into the room. I quickly found a seat as far away from them as possible. It wasn't hard for me to ignore their constant smirks in my direction. Sadly, fifteen minutes into the class the crazy teacher decided to put us in pairs to work on some worksheet.
My luck was bad, but it could have been worse. I got paired with Pete. If she had paired me with Jon I would've faked some sort of illness to get out of the class. I held my breath as Pete sat next to me.
"What's up, Ryho?" Pete asked with a smile.
Great, I thought, I have a nickname.
"Are you gonna date that other new kid now that Bren dumped your ass?" he asked, a hint of laughter in his voice.
I ignored him and began to do the worksheet the teacher had passed out. I already knew Pete wasn't going to help with the assignment when he could entertain himself by targeting me with his mindless jokes.
"I bet Brendon has a new boyfriend by next week. I'm not sure if I'll ask him out or Jon will."
I looked up at him. I already figured Jon liked Brendon, but I wouldn't have guessed Pete would like him too.
He smiled obviously pleased to get a reaction out of me even if all I did was look up. "You know how many people would kill to get a piece of Brendon?" he asked with a sneer.
I looked back down at the worksheet. I tried again to ignore him.
"I think it's more than half the school. Most people probably only want him because Jon and him practically own the school. You know, I bet if Brendon hadn't found you you'd have a black eye by now."
I couldn't ignore this. "And why don't I have a black eye? He broke up with me you and Jon and the rest of your group should've jumped me by now."
Pete was obviously thrilled to get me talking. "He seems pretty keen on us not actually touching you, but he never said anything about psychological damage."
"That sounds better. As long as I don't get carried away on a stretcher this week I don't think I'll care about all the nicknames and shit you guys can come up with," I said as I focused again on the worksheet.
My backtalk actually got Pete to shut up for the rest of class. Instead of trying to aggravate me, he spent the rest of class texting while I finished the worksheet. I managed to finish just as the bell rang.
One period left, I thought as I waited for Jon and Pete to leave the class first.
As I was walking to my forth period I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I turned around to see a rather tall and skinny boy. I tried to ignore his odd choice of clothing, but I really couldn't stop staring at his ridiculous hat.
"Yes?" I asked, impatiently.
"Are you Ryan?" he asked. I still couldn't take my focus off the hat for some strange reason. I wanted it gone.
"Yeah and who are you?" I asked, sounding ruder than I had intended.
"My name's Gabe. Brendon Urie paid me five bucks to walk with you."
I felt my hands ball into fists. Brendon honestly thought I needed an escort? "I take it your not friends with him then."
"No, I'm not. I'd love to be though."
"And why's that?" I asked as I began to walk in the direction I thought my class was.
"Have you seen him?" he asked, incredulously.
"More than you can imagine," I muttered.
"What?"
"Nothing," I stated with an innocent smile.
"So, your next class is guitar." It wasn't a question.
"How'd you know?"
"Brendon."
I nodded. I was starting to get annoyed that all of my conversations today seemed to revolve around him.
"Are you in guitar too?" I asked, hoping this would change the subject.
"Yeah. I'd rather sing though or play bass. I'm not going to ever sign up for chorus, so I figured this would be the next best thing."
I smiled, trying to be polite.
"This is the class," he said, opening the door for me.
"Thanks," I said as I walked inside. Gabe seemed like an interesting kid plus he was pretty decent to look at.
Gabe and I sat down in the back of he class. It was Guitar I and was mostly filled with freshman. The teacher began the class by assigning students to school guitars. Gabe had his own at home so she didn't assign him one, but I hadn't managed to buy a new one since I had moved here and I got stuck with a crappy school guitar. There was a crack in the neck and it was so out of tune that it would take me hours to fix.
"I guess this means it's time for me to buy a new guitar," I mumbled as I began to tune the guitar.
Gabe laughed, "Yeah cause good luck with that thing."
Gabe took the guitar from me and tried tuning it himself.
"Mr.Urie, what are you doing here?" I looked up as soon as I heard the teacher say his name.
"I just got switched in," he said with an unbelievably fake smile, but the teacher seemed to buy it.
"Take a seat while I finish assigning guitars."
Brendon nodded and immediately met my eyes. He walked quickly towards my seat.
"Ryan, can I please talk to you?" he asked quietly when he was standing in front of my seat.
"Fine," I said, not looking at him, but instead at the floor. I knew Gabe was probably trying to eavesdrop.
"Come with me," Brendon said as he took my hand and lead me into what looked like a practice room.
"Why did you say we couldn't do this anymore?" I asked, knowing Brendon would've started the conversation by avoiding my questions until he thought I wasn't mad.
"I didn't want to freak you out," he said simply.
"I won't get freaked out. Just tell me."
"Jon wanted to get everyone to beat you up and he said he wouldn't if I broke up with you." It seemed like he was leaving something out, but I knew I was probably just making things up. I seemed to be more paranoid than usual today.
"I think I'd rather be beaten up," I mumbled, still frustrated. I actually wanted to be mad at him, but I couldn't even accomplish that.
Brendon smiled slightly. "You'd break up with me if I hadn't done it first."
"What makes you think that?"
"That Spencer kid told you I beat him up. That has to annoy you in some way."
"It doesn't annoy me. It's just good to know my ex-boyfriend beats people up."
Brendon cringed slightly, "Don't call me that."
"Isn't that what you are now?"
Brendon sighed, "I only said that because I knew it'd get back to Jon. As long as he thinks I've broken up with you, he won't hurt you. You've probably spent all day being annoyed with me and I'm sure you showed that annoyance when Pete or Jon were watching you."
"Let me get this straight, in your little world we're still dating?"
"Yes."
"Alright. What's this party you're going to on Friday?" I asked, trying to change the subject so I wouldn't show just how thrilled I was that Brendon and I hadn't actually broken up.
"Oh, Jon always had a party at the end of the first week. I won't go if you don't want me to."
"You kind of have to go. It'd be pretty hard to explain that you're with the boyfriend you supposedly broke up with."
"That's true..."
"You know, I've never exactly dated someone in secret before."
"I've done it a bunch of times."
"I'm not sure if I should be worried about that or impressed," I said, smiling slightly.
Brendon ignored me and in once quick movement his lips were on mine.
"Sorry. I know it's been less than a day, but I missed your smile."
"That was unbelievably cheesy," I said, smiling wider. He pressed me against the wall in another kiss.
"I'm still allowed over after school, right?" he asked as he let me go.
"If you keep this up and I don't catch you making out with Jon in the next hour."
"Why would I make out with Jon?"
"I'm not sure but if you do I have a back up plan."
"Can I ask what it is or do I not want to know?" he asked, frowning.
"Don't pay hot guys to follow me around," I stated with a smile.
He immediately understood. "You think Gabe Saporta's hot?" he asked with a smirk.
"The hat might need to go, but besides that, yes."
"I guess I'll have to watch out for him," Brendon smiled and pinned me against the wall in another kiss.
"Maybe I'll ask him to spend the night on Friday," I joked as Brendon's lips left mine.
"Why can't I spend the night?" Brendon asked, looking hurt.
"You'll be getting trashed at some party."
"What about tonight?"
"You've got to be kidding...You can't go from dumping me to fucking me that fast!"
"Am I allowed to try?" he asked, kissing my neck.
"How about we go back to class and discuss this at my house?"
A/N: I know I promised this up by Tuesday but my beta never got back to me so I had to bug my friend Nicky to do it. I'm not sure when I'll post the next chapter but I can promise it WILL be up sometime next week. Love you guys and I hope you're not too mad at me for the wait.
