Clicking the tethers to the kids' harnesses, Alyssa held out one of the wristbands to Chris. He fastened the velcro around his wrist before leaning over to kiss Alyssa quickly.
"Ewwww. Dada, no kissy!" Toni protested.
Alyssa rolled her eyes, "What do you guys want to see first?"
"Fishies!" Nick declared. "Sharkies!"
"Toni?" Chris looked down at his daughter.
"SHARKIES!" she exclaimed.
"Sharks it is then," Alyssa nodded, looking up at the park gates as they moved forward in line.
They probably could have thrown celebrity around and gotten whisked through the gates, taken on private tours. But Alyssa adamantly argued against it. Their kids would live as close to a normal life as possible. Which meant waiting in line with everyone else to purchase tickets.
Nick pulled at his hat, trying to remove it. Frowning dramatically, Alyssa squatted before him.
"Don't you like your hat, Nick?" she asked.
"No," he shook his head.
"Why not? Daddy's wearing a hat," Alyssa pointed out, pulling on the edges of his blue bucket hat some.
"No like," Nick declared.
She pulled his little sunglasses down his nose slightly, to look into his eyes, "How about you keep your hat on and get you a special treat in the park?"
His eyes brightened, "Present?"
Alyssa nodded, "But you have to wear your hat the entire time first. Okay?"
"Okay, Mama," he nodded.
"Good boy," she kissed his nose before standing and moving to catch up with Chris and Toni in line a few paces up.
"Everything okay?" Chris asked.
"Yep," Alyssa nodded. "Cept I deserve a present."
"Do you now?" his eyebrows rose above the rim of his sunglasses.
She nodded again, "I talked Nick into keeping his hat on. So you should take me to The Oyster's Secret."
"And what praytell is that?"
"You clearly didn't read the literature I left out."
"Guilty," he replied, moving a few steps forward.
"Well basically it's a dive pool where you get to watch them actually harvest the pearls before making it into something special for you," Alyssa explained.
Chris grinned, "Done. I'm sure that will be interesting to watch."
"Dada?" Toni spoke up, tugging on Chris's shirt slightly.
"Yes, butterfly," his eyes left Alyssa to look down at his daughter.
"I wanna touch the fishies."
"You sound just like your mother," he commented.
"Huh?"
"Remember how I told you about swimming with the fishies?" Alyssa asked.
"Ohhh, yeah," the little girl nodded. "So we get to touch the fishies?"
"I'm sure there's some place we can do that."
"Yay!"
Alyssa leaned to Chris, "As long as we can avoid ice cream..."
He chuckled, stepping up to the window, "Two adults, one three year old, and a two year old."
"That will be 184.28, sir," the ticket girl replied, recognition dawning in her eyes.
Chris offered his credit card, but Alyssa stepped in between. She had a feeling that if he were to sign the credit card slip, the girl would keep it, or copy it, or something. So instead she slid hers in the window, bumping Chris with her elbow to silence his protests.
As they headed up to the gate, he asked, "What was that about?"
"She knew who you were," Alyssa answered, tucking her card back into her wallet before returning that to her backpack.
"And?"
"We weren't giving her the chance to get in trouble by saving something you signed," she explained, handing a ticket to Toni. "Give this to the nice lady, Toni."
"I see fishies!" the little girl exclaimed, handing her ticket to the lady before heading into the park, forcing Chris to hurry along as he was tethered to her.
Allowing Nick to hand over the other three tickets, Alyssa smiled at the park employee before joining up with her husband and daughter, "Now I believe sharks are to the left?"
"Looks like they're in the back of the park," Chris commented, looking at the map in his hands. "Maybe we should go pet the stingrays first?"
"What's a stingray, Daddy?" Toni asked.
He smiled at her, "Let's go find out."
"YAY!" she giggled.
While the kids focused on the sharks swimming over them, Alyssa leaned towards Chris, "Aren't you glad we have those harnesses now?"
"Definitely," he nodded before sipping his drink. "Eck, I'm so not a Pepsi person."
She switched her water with his soda, "Then I'll drink it."
Chris smirked, "How much more of the park do we have left?"
"We've got the Shamu show and the Clyde and Seamore show remaining," she answered, eyes flicking to the kids, who were still silently riveted on the sharks swimming pass the glass walls of the restaurant. "Clyde and Seamore are before Shamu. Then maybe the tower to before heading back to the hotel?"
He nodded, "Sounds good. I bet the kids sleep really well tonight."
"I bet I sleep really well tonight," Alyssa countered. "Though my arm isn't going to be sore from carrying Nick all day. Did you notice he only reached up to be held when he couldn't see?"
Chris grinned, "I know. It's been a great day. He's doing a lot better than I thought he would."
"He's a good kid. Especially when he gets special attention, like Toni does," Alyssa claimed, eyes flicking up as the waitress brought their meal.
"You think I need to spend more time with him?"
"Couldn't hurt," she replied. "Not that I mind him being a momma's boy."
Chris laughed softly, "Because I've got a daddy's girl."
"You so sure about that?" her eyebrow arched up before she turned to the kids. "Okay, kiddos. Let's eat something. The sharks and fishies will still be there after you eat."
Nick turned around first, eyes brightening seeing the fish-shaped chicken nuggets on his plate.
"You too, Toni," Alyssa instructed, watching as the girl slowly turned around.
"Mommy, when I get bigger, I wanna swim with the fishies!" she exclaimed.
"Then you better eat your dinner or you won't grow," she replied.
"Okay!" Toni agreed.
"Amazing," Chris muttered.
"What? Your steak?" Alyssa asked, her eyes leaving the kids to look at him.
"No. You," he declared softly. "You're a natural mother, especially considering you didn't carry them for nine months."
She shrugged, "Like I've said before, they're my heart's children."
Padding into the bedroom half of their two room suite, closing the door mostly between them and where the children slept, Chris crawled into bed next to Alyssa. She smiled slightly, wiggling closer to him. His lips touched her shoulder as his arms settled around her.
"Great family outing today, wasn't it?" he breathed, hand slipping under her shirt.
"Mmmmhmmmm. I'm exhausated," Alyssa muttered.
Chris's hand stopped just below her breasts, his fingers tracing small patterns, "I have some bad news."
"What's that?" her eyes opened, peering at him in the darkness.
"Brad and Selene can't watch the kids until six tomorrow," he stated.
"That's all? You had me thinking it was something worse," she replied, eyes closing again.
"Well we were going to go to Disneyworld tomorrow, remember?"
Alyssa shrugged, her shoulder bumping his chin slightly, "I don't think I would have the energy for it anyways. We can come back some other time."
"You sure?"
"Mmmmhmmm. Let's take the kids to the beach tomorrow. Then when we've got time alone, we can go out for dinner or something," she suggested.
"Whatever you want, my love," he muttered, nuzzling her.
"There's something we need to talk about anyways."
"Oh?"
"Yes," she replied then yawned. "But not now. Now I want to sleep." |
