ThePellegrinClan of Stormwind

One of the once-numerous noble families of Stormwind, the Pellegrins like many others fell on hard times over the last several generations, forced into exile in Lordaeron by the invasion of the Horde and then enduring two wars to help reclaim their ancestral kingdom and their own place in it. The current generation is as follows:

Martel Pellegrin (Deceased) – Haeline Pellegrin (formerly Altamoore)
-
-
-
Keldris Valken Aelira Petris Kaetrin Tardyth
-
-
-
Valken – Tarisa (formerly Ketheril) Aelira – Adhemir Malhedrin
-

-
Arkhen (Valken and Tarisa’s three year old son) Taryn (Valken and Tarisa’s year old daughter) Sardris (Aelira and Adhemir’s three month old daughter)

Martel Pellegrin:
● Patriarch of the far-flung Pellegrin clan, recently deceased.
● Became head of the family at the tender age of seventeen when his father, his much-beloved elder sister, and father were all killed in battle during the first Horde invasion of Stormwind. It was his paladin sister’s particularly brutal death that instilled in him the strongly held conviction that women should not be warriors.
● Martel spent the majority of his life at war and, consequently, there was very little about him that was soft, gentle, or idealistic, having been beaten spiritually to the consistency of solid steel. His experiences at war created in him a visceral loathing of the Horde in specific and a general contempt for nonhuman races, even those who were members of the Alliance, whom he regarded as feckless and irresponsible. He was, nonetheless, an enormously competent military commander capable of utilizing any tool that came to hand, even if it had pointy ears and an obnoxiously large nose, and a shrewd politician, utterly loyal to the throne of Stormwind and the House of Wrynn, to whom the Pellegrins are distantly related by past intermarriage.
● He possessed a stormy and uncomfortable relationship with several of his children, most particularly his “wild” eldest son, Keldris – their incessant clash of wills and personalities eventually drove his heir to renounce the Pellegrin name entirely – and his youngest son, Petris, a mage and scholar who was his wife’s favorite and with whom he never truly connected in any meaningful way.
● He died just prior to the second Scourge invasion, laid low by a series of increasingly severe strokes that first incapacitated and then killed him. Repenting on his deathbed of the greatest wrong he had committed in his life, he asked his loyal second son, Valken, to bring his elder brother home to reconcile with the family, recognizing at the last the unyielding steel they were both made of.

Haelin Pellegrin (formerly Altamoore):
● Haelin Pellegrin was born the younger daughter of an ancient but impoverished noble family from the island nation of Kul Tiras.
● An extremely gifted young sorceress serving her apprenticeship in Dalaran at the time of the first Horde invasion, she was summoned home by her family to cement a marriage alliance with the newly installed head of House Pellegrin, Martel – who required her to resign her apprenticeship and cease the practice of arcane magic as a precondition of their union. Aware that her refusal to do so would doom her family to a slow decline and quite probable disgrace, she complied with this demand, but always secretly resented her husband for forcing her to lay aside her own life and ambitions to be his helpmeet, estate manager, and broodmare, three tasks on which she felt her talents and intellect were utterly wasted.
● Living vicariously through the accomplishments of her many gifted children, she encouraged all three of her daughters to take up the theurgic magic of the priesthood, for which they possessed a natural affinity, though only one of them did so. She also unconsciously encouraged and exacerbated the personality conflicts between her intellectually rebellious eldest son and her husband, as the strife between them gave her enormous personal satisfaction. Her blatant favoritism of her youngest son, whom her husband allowed to practice the arcane magic so beloved to her own heart, led that son to put as much distance as physically possible between them at all times.
● The death of her husband freed her to pursue her own arcane interests again and she has since retired to Dalaran to continue her long-deferred studies.

Keldris Pellegrin, the Prodigal Son:
● The rebellious, and currently disinherited, eldest son of the current generation.
● The inheritor of his mother’s keen and questing intellect and his father’s warrior spirit and iron will – traits to which he added a fiercely held idealism, a warmly outgoing and personable nature, and, to his father’s vast trauma, a certain fey attractiveness that drew others to him – attention that he did not precisely repudiate.
● Continuously at odds with his father over everything and anything from the moment he learned to talk, he eventually gave up on ever achieving paternal approval. Instead, he concentrated on learning those things he wished to know (the list was traumatically long and thoroughly inappropriate, as far as his father was concerned) and pursuing personal excellence as he saw fit, occasionally going down roads that even he regretted following. Notably intemperate and passionate in his loves and his hates, his youth was a welter of flashfire feuds and equally fleeting affairs of the heart – until he fell desperately and madly in love with an impoverished wandering knight-errant half again his age who seduced him without serious effort and then blackmailed the deeply unamused Martel Pellegrin for an outrageous sum of gold to keep the scandalous and immensely socially unacceptable relationship from becoming public knowledge.
● Accepting the justice of his father’s considerable wrath for the first time, Keldris traveled north to Lordaeron to let the whispers of said scandal quiet down and to seek further, advanced education in the arts of combat and command from the warmasters there. Heartbroken by the betrayal of his lover and heartsick over the shame he had brought to his family, his instructors found him to be blindingly intelligent and immensely competent but also prone to fits of recklessness, particularly with regard to the safety of his own person. In an effort to rein him in, the warmasters partnered him with one of the school’s few Quel’dorei students, Solivar Eventide, in the hope that the elf could temper his recklessness with common sense and caution and, perhaps not coincidentally, keep the fool alive until he could get over whatever was eating him. Ultimately, the partnership accomplished far more than that, and the two became fast friends, sword-brothers, and, ultimately, lovers.
● Eventually, the whiff of personal impropriety faded and Keldris was summoned home by his parents, ostensibly to interview potential brides. It was thus that by the cruel whim of fortune that Keldris Pellegrin survived the Scourge invasion of Lordaeron by virtue of passing Arthas Menethil on the road out of the kingdom that was about to be conquered and destroyed – while his best friend and lover was going back home to Quel’Thalas, the other kingdom Arthas was about to conquer and destroy. Trapped in Stormwind, Keldris could only watch in horror as the Scourge swept through Lordaeron killing everything in its path and then turned its baleful attention on his best friend’s homeland. His pleas to his father to send a detachment of Pellegrin knights north to help relieve the embattled Quel’dorei fell on deaf ears; Martel bluntly informed him that he would never waste a drop of Pellegrin blood on feckless, untrustworthy elves.
● Heartsick, Keldris left home for the last time that night, stealing a horse and traveling north against the steady flow of refugees from Lordaeron. There he found the capital in ruins and the kingdom itself swarming with mindlessly hostile undead and, in Quel’Thalas, a scene of devastation and near-genocide, with the pitifully few survivors suffering a slow death by the necromantic poisoning of the Sunwell. Solivar was not among them, and it was from the shattered remnants of the Quel’dorei Farstriders that he learned of the utter annihilation of both the Eventide and Dawnsedge clans, the family of his friend and his friend’s bride-to-be.
● Ignoring his family’s pleas to return home, he instead remained in Scourge-occupied Lordaeron, doing what he could to assist the few living survivors of that land, and of Quel’Thalas, as well. Eventually, his activities brought him to the attention of the Argent Dawn and, finding some measure of personal solace in their wide-ranging and all-embracing mission, he joined their ranks and has served their cause faithfully ever since. Critically wounded in the defense of Orgrimmar during the second Scourge invasion, he was remanded to the care of the Argent Dawn’s hidden-monastery hospital to recouperate and assist in the recovery of others, where he entered into a strange, sweet courtship of mind with one of the Argent Healers there, the undead priestess Ophila. He was still stationed there when the Battle of Light’s Hope Chapel freed the Brotherhood of the Ebon Blade from their enslavement by the Lich King. Shortly thereafter, it came to his attention in the most traumatic manner possible that his late lover was not as dead as he could be – or perhaps not as alive, since opinions on the subject varied greatly. His recovery has been neither quiet nor peaceful since.
