Title: Waiting For the Train Wreck (CHAPTER 4)
Author: [info]ryrolovesbden
Rating: R (language)
Pairing: Brendon/Ryan (mention of Spencer, tho)
POV: 3rd
Summary: In order to pay for the apartment he's renting, Spencer has to have two roommates. He moves Brendon in and a couple of weeks later, he invites Ryan to move in with them. Brendon, however, dislikes Ryan from the very start, and the feeling is most definitely mutual.
Disclaimer: Completely untrue. The only thing I own is the crappy title.
Author Notes: Feedback and constructive criticism always welcome and appreciated! Thank you to Kimmie for volunteering to beta this chapter! =)

"So, how are you and Brendon making out?" Spencer grabbed a box of cereal from the top of the refrigerator.

Ryan swallowed his coffee quickly before having a coughing fit. "What?" he finally asked.

"How are you two getting along? I noticed things seemed a little shaky when you first got here. I hope he's not giving you too much trouble. He's really pretty cool, just a little ... out there, if you know what I mean." Spencer turned to see Brendon walking into the kitchen. "Well, speak of the devil."

The devil indeed, Ryan thought. "I'm hanging out with my girlfriend today." Why the fuck did I say that?

Brendon and Spencer looked at him and then back at each other. "Good for you. Not like we care, Valentino," Brendon stated coolly, pouring cereal into a bowl and not even bothering to look at Ryan.

Ryan sighed and realized things were completely back to the same shitty way they were before the kiss. Brendon probably didn't even remember it happened and for all Ryan cared, he'd like to forget it ever happened as well. Liking Brendon wasn't an option; wanting Brendon was completely understandable, though, and totally different.

Spencer decided to be the angel of mercy. "Well, I hope you and your girlfriend have fun today. Brendon, quit being an ass," he added as he left the kitchen.

Okay, I have to say something. "You were right - that club was pretty bad last night."

Brendon laughed and suddenly they were on the same page. "God, I know. But, hey, free drinks! I mean, come on. You can't pass that up. We'll have to do it again sometime. You're a cheap date." Brendon gave a sideways glance and grinned. He took another bite of cereal before tossing the bowl on the counter. "I'd love to stay and talk shit with you but some of us have jobs."

******

"Go to fucking sleep!" Ryan was tired, frustrated and Brendon wouldn't stop playing that damn guitar.

"I told you, I have trouble falling asleep, Ryan! You've known this since the first day -- what the hell is your problem? What do you want me to do?"

Oh, what do I want you to do? I want you to bend over the bed and let me fuck you until you're screaming my name so loud the neighbors will hear. Ryan closed his eyes briefly, irritated that he was still having these thoughts that were obviously getting worse. "You know what? Nothing, Brendon. I want you to do nothing, as usual. I'll go sleep on the couch. At least it's quiet down there!" He made a point of slamming the door behind him.

Brendon noticed a small spiral-bound notebook fall to the floor when Ryan jerked the blankets off the bed. He leapt from his bed and quickly confiscated it, flipping it open. The first few pages were full of how much he hated Brendon, hated the living arrangement, how badly he needed to find a job, etc. Page five was where it got interesting:

I did it. I don't know how the hell it happened or why it happened, but it did. I kissed Brendon in the back of the cab on the way home tonight. I can blame the alcohol. The worst part of all was how bad I wanted it. I can only hope he doesn't remember it tomorrow.

Brendon's eyes were wide when he finished reading. He was trying desperately to remember that night but was drawing a blank. He flipped the page to another day. Why can't I stop thinking about him? It's not like I even like Brendon. In fact, I think he's a total asshat. Yet I can't stop wondering what it would feel like to touch him, to feel his hands on my body, to kiss those soft lips again. I wonder what he's like in bed. I wonder if he has a girlfriend. And again -- why the fuck can't I stop thinking about this guy?

Brendon leafed through the pages quickly, searching for any more interesting tidbits of info. Finding none, he closed the notebook, suddenly aware that he was wearing a huge smile. So Ryan had the hots for him. It was all right there in his own handwriting. He felt a little guilty for reading something so personal but felt somewhat justified considering it was about him. He slipped the notebook underneath the end of Ryan's bed, suddenly wishing the boy hadn't decided to sleep on the couch.
