Writer's Block: Dog Day Afternoon

The Dog Days of summer, the hottest days of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, start today. What's your favorite thing to do in hot weather? View other answers I thought the Dog Days were in August? Well, even if they are now, it's barely broken 70F here in the past few days, so if these are supposed to be the hottest days of the year, then I'd fear the coldest (assuming...

Trolls....and not even intelligent ones

This morning, I got an email that the user rdmonkey posted in one of my entries, but he had deleted it from the entry itself. It, as well as his journal, are nothing but ranting about werewolves. And it's not even good ranting. So, to anyone that lists wolves or werewolves in their interests, you might want to preemptively ban him , just to avoid the matter altogether. If nothing else, it's...

Draggy has a new toy :)

The RAM and motherboard for my new computer came in on Friday. I already had the processor, which I got from a sale at my local Microcenter. We spent the evening frantically putting it together and setting it up before our (World of Warcraft) raid. So, now my new baby (hereby known as "Shebeast") has the following specs: OS: Windows 7 RC (to go to full Win7 when it releases) Motherboard: Gigabyte...

A young Iranian protester describes beating at the hands of the paramilitary. I haven't posted much about the goings on in Iran, but I think this is one of the few times that I've wanted our military to go in and clean house (at the same time, though, this isn't really our battle to fight). The more I see about this, the more sympathy I have for the people who want to have true democracy, but can't...

Interesting look at the Neo-Pagan Wheel of the Year, posted in Darkpaganism. The author's disgust of people claiming historical accuracy for such things reminds me of a Wiccan Priest I know of that holds everyone's beliefs to a standard of historical accuracy that would majorly change his own beliefs if he were to apply the same standards to them. =/

Dragon's Glossary of Words Used in Spirituality - Energy

Since there are a number of different terms that Paganism, spirituality, science, humanity in general use that may or may not mean the same thing to everyone, and since the people who are more scientifically minded want scientific parallels when talking with someone regarding spirituality, I wanted to start a sort of glossary of the terms that I use. I'm doing this because I've found that explanations...

[Otherkin] Come Again?

The recent events in my life have been laying on me somewhat heavily. Primarily, the ideas of various types of Otherkin (as my broad definition -- anyone who is something "other" than human, even if they don't consider themselves "Otherkin" per se, or are actually involved with it as a subculture), and the reactions of the people who I thought would at least be open-minded about the topic (even if...

I've seen one too many "buyer beware" posts

I'm not sure why I read some of these things, but I came across a blog on CNet entitled 7 Things Electronics Salespeople Won't Tell You , which talks about various things that, well, a salesperson probably won't outright tell you. I think what irks me the most is that it has a couple pieces of useful information amid a bunch of stereotypical complaints. So, because I feel it's a waste to try to put...

I don't know whether to laugh or facepalm. On the one hand, there's a bitter irony to seeing something like that from a company based where I used to live, but on the other...isn't clothing in general flammable when exposed to an open flame?
