There's something to be said about the sound of the smoke alarm going off in the early morning hours. $%#&*@ No, I wasn't sleeping and I wasn't baking either :-P I just forgot to replace the battery on New Years Day. I guess the one down in the basement will be going off any time now if I don't get batteries soon. I had a coupon for the men's apparel section at Fred Meyers so I thought I'd check out...

3 impossible things before breakfast

5 AM - clean out wasp nest from the electrical compartment of the camper. At least that early they're still sleeping and I didn't get stung! 6 AM - clean bed and bath rooms 7 AM - make cookies before it gets too hot. Predicted high in the 90s! The last 3 dozen cookies are in the oven now! :) First time with the new paddle I picked up at Kitchen Collection and it worked great! It scrapes the bowl...

June books

Once again I haven't been reading much this month. SciFi/Fantasy books David Weber Shadow of Saganami, At All Costs I finished up the Honor Harrington series rereads in June to finally start the new book, Storm from the Shadows, this month! Tanya Huff The Enchantment Emporium I haven't read a Tanya Huff book that I didn't like though the beginning of this one almost made an exception...

Shopping

I ripped my last pair of blue jeans so I've been doing some online browsing in the men's section of various stores. I came across this on the Kmart site and laughed.

Low tide at Boiler Bay

This week has seen one of the lowest tides along the Oregon Coast. We left Thursday morning to see the boiler from the shipwreck that Boiler Bay was named after. Low tide was 2.7 feet below sea level And there's the boiler! It was a pretty nice day as coastal weather goes - overcast but not much wind for once. This was taken in Lincoln City. It's D River, the shortest river in the world...

Ice cream

Dreyers Fun Flavors, specifically the Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream - it's a watered down chocolate ice cream with a syrupy Fudge base and what tastes like stale Little Debbie brownie bars, minus the walnuts. I will NOT be buying this one again even if it's the only thing left in the store. I should probably just stick with my all-time favorite, Rocky Road, and I did buy a carton of that too but it's...

Amazon Marketplace

I've never had a problem with the Amazon Marketplace until now. It'a also the first time I didn't read the seller's reviews because I was in a hurry. The books was listed as New, never used, pristine, clean copy. When I opened the package, the front and back covers are bent, the spine is well creased, and it's obviously been read several times. But it's not worth the hassle and expense to return it...

Phillip Margolin

Ooooh noooo. Phillip Margolin, a Portland author, was going to be a Powell Books last night and I was going. I forgot. :( Last night's thunderstorm knocked it clear out of my head.

Rose Festival

It's Rose Festival time again. It started off with a Bang last night - an hour and a half thunderstorm. Followed by rain today and a forecast calling for rain or showers pretty much all week next week. Yep, typical Rose Festival weather for the Starlight Parade, Grand Floral Parade, & Junior Parade. Not to mention the ships coming in. All the bridges are up this afternoon...just in time for people...
