Chapter 5

The warm colour of violet adorned the glass panel, aligning the door out to the patio. The boys of the house were lounging in the living room watching TV. It’s a Sunday, and the sun had been smiling warmly above. Yoochun had his leg flung over Yunho’s thigh on the sofa, while Yamapi and his brother were seated on the floor.

“I’m going out later. I’ve got a date.” Yunho patted Yoochun’s shin.

Yamapi almost choked on the potato chip he was eating. “Date? You’re on a date?!”

Yunho pouted. “What’s wrong? I have a shopping date.”

“Oh, that.” Jin laughed leaning back, laying his head in between Yunho’s leg. “Buying underwear? I believe yours are ratty, the last time I checked.”

Yoochun broke into laughter. “Yeah, the rats just love his underwear.”

“Could you guys shut up?” Yunho scowled. Yoochun who was wearing knee-length khaki pants yelped when Yunho pulled the hair on his shin.

“That’s painful!” Yoochun rubbed the sore area. “I’ll be going out later. Yamapi?”

“I’ll be in the dojo practising my sword fighting.” Yamapi said. “You?”

“Me?” Jin asked. “I’ve got a painting to finish. I’m so envious you guys are going out.”

Yunho shifted slightly and smiled. “That’s what you get for being an artist. You chose it.”

The wind was gently breathing down his neck while the sun lazing in the sky up high above. It’s such a beautiful day to be here. He was standing in vast greenery. The scent of the earth was as distinct as death. White tombs erected in rows and columns. Walking down the quiet path, he stopped in front of one.

“Chunhee, I hope you’re doing fine.” Yoochun spoke towards the tomb. “I’m such a bad brother, aren’t I? I kill for a living. Isn’t it pathetic? ’ Yoochun let out a sigh. “But I can’t stop myself. And until I meet the person who killed you, I’ll continue my life this way. Please stay in peace. I love you forever.”

Yoochun stared at his feet. How long has it been since his death? It was in high school. His heart ached at the memories. Finding him all bloody and dead was something that plagued him till now. Moving away from the cemetery, Yoochun was determined to meet the killer. He must’ve grown up, probably around his age. He remembered the murderer’s face, clearly. But how he looked like now, Yoochun didn’t know, but he had been searching on his own. And if God answered his prayers, he’ll meet his murderer.

He flopped down below the willow tree and just stared. And he didn’t know why the picture Jin had shown to him had triggered all the memories of that bloody day. Maybe there’s something more to it?

Slash. Run. Jump. Dodge. Stab. And he’s panting heavily. Beads of sweat trickled down his back, soaking his yukata. His motion moved fluidly like the running water, languid yet powerful. The katana in hand slashed the air effortlessly.

Yamapi focused on his target. The bamboos tied together and erected in the middle of the dojo.  The dojo wasn’t such a big space since only he practised his fighting skills here, so it was only a bedroom size. It’s just beside the boxing room. He had the katana in the casing and gripped it close to his left hip. Turning at an angle, Yamapi had one hand on the top of the katana while the other holding the casing.

Then swiftly, he pulled the katana off its casing, slashing the bamboos.  THUNK! The bamboos fell apart. Just like how he felt. He knew, one day, he would quit this and start afresh. But for now, he’ll just go with the flow.

He hated life back home. It’s always “do this, this, this”. His life was pleasant until his mom married Jin’s wealthy father. The two brothers got along well and bickered often like all siblings do.

“Why does your father keep insisting me on studying business?” Yamapi grunted, kicking the pebble on the ground.

Jin looked up from his book, his eye glass seating on his nose. “How do I know? He’s doting on you.”

“You’re his son! He should force it on you.” Yamapi groaned and sat beside Jin on the wooden bench in their backyard.

“He’s now your father too. He’d never do that.” Jin smiled. “Besides, what’s so bad about learning business? You might inherit his wealth.”

“That’s not the point.”

“Then what IS the point?” Jin ran his fingers through Yamapi’s dark hair, his skinny frame leaning against him.

“The point is how come, he doesn’t do that to you?”

“He,” Jin smiled. “He knew I won’t be able to take any pressure, beside I’m not such a bright person”

And then that day he ran away. He knew his parents knew but he didn’t expect Jin to come searching for him in Korea, three years later, when he’s in high school.  Yamapi called his parents sometimes to ask about their health. And they never knew what his occupation was.

Jin sat in his room staring at the lone picture he had of Junsu. He got up and settled at his desk. Pulling the drawer open, he felt looked for his spare phone and checked for any messages… none. He put it back into place and got back to his laptop.

Hip and cool, and Yunho’s definitely one of them. Damn Yoochun and his buddies about his ratty underwear. That was such an old story. Beautiful people walked down the streets. Man, woman and adolescent, they’re all lazily strolling to their desired shop. Giggles and laughter filled the air.

It’s such a good Sunday afternoon. A good day to laze around, spend good money on clothes and… girls. When was the last time he’d slept with a woman? It’s probably around centuries ago, during the year of the cavemen. He chuckled. Blame it on his packed schedule but it didn’t matter much when it rakes in the cash, right? Right…

Turning at the corner, he went inside this fragrant shop. Full of different kinds of cologne, perfume and so on. Yunho smiled at the cashier behind the counter. She was smiling brightly at him with a quick nod. He’s a regular face here, so the pretty girls knew him by heart, and he might pick them up some other time.

Yunho walked down the alley with racks of bottles of perfumes side by side. He looked for that one perfume that he loves the most. He was sauntered to the rack and reached for the small white box with the words Marc Jacobs printed in black. At the same time, another hand reached out for it too.

“Ah.” The girl pulled her hands away. She had such big eyes that Yunho was mesmerised by it.

“Oh, it’s ok, you can have it.” Yunho smiled. Mode: Charm. Might get lucky, he thought.

Yunho just had to size up the pretty lady in front of him. Starting from top, her straight hair flowed silkily against her bare shoulder. Fair and smooth. Yunho suddenly had the urge to run his fingers along those. Her glossy lips was pouting slightly at him while her hips cocked slightly, giving an arrogant posture. She had a simple red dress which grazed her knee. And she was wearing stocking. Damn, black stockings. And black heels that aren’t that high. Yunho thought she’d still be pretty tall even without the heels. His eyes drifted back up to her face.

“Are you buying this for your boyfriend?” Yunho asked. Play it safe, Yunho, he thought.

Jaejoong shook his head. It was all Jaejoong could do, as not to drool like a bulldog here. Jung Yunho looked so much better in person. Way better than in pictures and blistering hot too. He wondered if they’d increase the temperature of the air-con or was it his body temperature rising? Yunho was dressed in printed tee and dark jeans. His dark hair was styled in a ruffled kind of way which was hell, sexy. Damn sexy.

“I’m just browsing.” Jaejoong fluttered his eyelashes and he swore Yunho flared his nostrils. Mode: Seduction.

Yunho didn’t know why but he kind of like the way she looks at him. Maybe he could buy her dinner? Wait it’s not dinner time yet. Maybe some snack or whatever. Then they can head to….

“I think I’m not buying this,” Jaejoong smiled again, and laid a hand on Yunho’s arm. “Would you like to eat somewhere?”

“Why not…? I’m free.” Yunho grinned and held her smooth hand in his and walked out. Is she married? Yunho thought. He glanced at her fingers and no ring. Good sign.

Jaejoong smiled at him, fluttering his eyelashes yet again, and Yunho suddenly felt slightly uncomfortable behind his zippers, below his navel. This girl was poison but tempting as hell.
