Hello, everyone! It is my turn, and I just finished a darned annotated bibliography, so I'm absolutely thrilled to be here. May I present:
Fangirl Tour Volume I, No. 15: Sex(uality) and Laughter (because I feel like indulging my pleasure senses and funny bone)
Here we have mostly Harry Potter (a variety of pairs, het and some slash) and possibly the most infamous piece of fanfiction in the Lord of the Rings universe. I ship Hermione/Severus, but most of the recommendations are not in that ship. Most.
Harry Potter
Bill/Fleur
Here we have a couple that is fabulously beautiful and decidedly not clichéd when written well. I happened upon a few pieces when purveying smutty_claus, Love, Honour and Obey by anjenue and Synesthesia by violet_quill. While both of these pieces are technically categorized as PWP/Smut, they are imbued with raw emotion that just floods the page, which is an uncommon characteristic in PWP shorts, especially when they are being explicitly written for a rather explicit exchange. I was impressed with how both authors handle the issue of Bill’s scarring and how it affects the couple’s [sexual] relationship. They are (obviously) rated Mature.
Draco/Luna
If you want to read a tender, he’s-coming-around Draco and a spot-on characterization of Luna, read Heart & Soul by sshg316. I never indulge in Luna fanfiction – and I mean never – but Shug was a friend, so I read, and was admittedly prepared to fudge a bit if I didn’t like how Luna was written (which, given the author’s talent, was doubtful), but this sweet-natured WIP has really hooked me. It’s just a lovely, feel good story that is guaranteed to lift your mood. Rated PG-13/R.
Harry/Draco
My two friends who got me hooked on fanfiction were Harry/Draco writers, so I have a few recommendations based off of stories they’ve introduced me to. First, anything by Anna Fugazzi, the writer of the epic Bond and various one-shots that will have you rolling in the aisles. Second, The Eros Affair, a website full of “sex cheques” written by the crème of Harry/Draco writers (it was an invitation-only site). If you want Harry/Draco smut that is absolutely hysterical, head on over!
Hermione/Charlie
Leap of Faith was one of my teaser recommendations at the beginning of this tour. This lush, real, simple yet incredibly complex tale is being co-written by bambu345 and tales_of_snape, and these women write fabulously well off each other. Also, their Charlie is to die for. If you haven’t checked it out, please go to the community right away! (Extra incentive: Charlie & Hermione just got married!)
Hermione/Ron
*dodges bullets from SS/HG shippers*
I have a soft spot for Ron, though I almost never read Hermione/Ron fanfiction (we get a ton of the story in the canon, so why do the fanfiction? is my general approach). Of All the Gin Joints by Melisande88, however, drew me in first because of the title – fabulous Casablanca reference – and secondly by the premise of Hermione going to Ron when running away form Severus. Also, the Ron here is just… wonderful. He is mature, caring, sensitive – an adult. The story is from his perspective, and it is so well written. There’s a bit of smut, but it’s a lovely, tender, easy-to-read-in-one-sitting story. A brief warning – for all that this story is a short read, it has one of the most bastardly Snapes I’ve ever read. Rated R.
Severus/Lily
*more sacrilege*
subvers’ Unseen is incredible. Sub is a prolific writer and has produced classic SS/HG fiction, but this remains my favorite of all her work. The fact that she gets it so canon, so true to the nature of their relationship before Deathly Hallows was released is just chilling. Don’t read if you can’t handle the tragic ending, but if you can, the experience will be profound. Bring Kleenex. Rated R.
General -- Icons
Any and all icons and banners made by laurel_tx. She makes them for a variety of fandoms, largely Harry Potter but also X-Men, Grey’s Anatomy (though she quit that fandom a while ago), and Battlestar Galactica, to name a few. Her journal’s name is “The Prefect’s Bathroom: Better to have too many pervvy icons than not enough," and the title does not disappoint! She has something for Harry Potter fans of all sorts, but fans of slash, Cedric, and Regulus in particular will be ecstatic.
Some of my favorites:

...I have wayy too many of her icons. Go get some. *nod nod*
Lord of the Rings
I was initially told about The Very Secret Diaries of Lord of the Rings by a few of my youth group guy friends in high school who were football players and wrestlers, so that tells you how much mass appeal these hysterical, cannot-stop-reading pieces have. They’re written by Cassandra Claire, a BNA in the Harry Potter fandom, and are just… yeah. If you haven’t read them, get to it! Rated PG-13 for suggestiveness.
And lastly… Hermione/Severus (yes, it gets bolded like it's its own fandom)
A few of my favorites that, to the best of my knowledge, have not been rec’d.
Calling Card by bambu345 is one of my favorite SS/HG pieces of all time. It’s remarkably original with excellent characterizations, a devoted, brilliant Hermione, a separated couple (will they come back together?), and foreign locations – and I’ll stop before I give anything else away! It's wonderful. Rated Lascivious.
Let Someone ELSE Tell You About the Birds and the Bees by Dracontia is my favorite response to the Sex Ed Challenge at Potter Place. It’s fall-off-your-chair funny, and the depictions of Hogwarts professors such as Hooch are really, really fascinating. Oh, and McGonagall beats a picture of an erect penis limp – did I mention that? Rated PG-13.
Augory & Ardor by SnapeySnax is awe-inducing. It is very dark and has disturbing chapters, but it just such an incredible read – it is just so well written, so emotional, and the climax – well, you’ve got to take a look. Rated Lascivious. Warning: non-con and forced marriage.
And here ends my installment. Thanks again to scatteredlogic for taking us on this incredible ride.
Enjoy! |
