Random meme time! I'm stuck at home on a Friday night for the first time since coming to Japan, due to lack of funds. :P

A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it".

You know how sometimes people on your friendslist post about >stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.

first name
Kalloway. Or Kalli. I answer to both, and variations. I prefer it to my legal name.

age
28. I'm only a little touchy about it because sometimes it gets frustrating being over 20 and still fannish (actually, I only got fannish after 20)~

location
Port Huron area, Michigan. Hold out your left hand. That's Michigan. I live between your thumb joints.

occupation
I've been working as a bank teller since March. Aside from some recent issues, I really enjoy my job and am grateful to have it. I worked in retail hell for nearly five years and at one point was supposed to go teach English in Japan, but that fell through, sadly.

partner?
None. I ended a decade-long relationship in the Spring, and it has taken some time to 'get over it'. It was an amicable, mutual split and we're still friends, but I can't see ever having a relationship like that again. I'd like to do a round of poke-n-prod/std testing and get back on the pill sometime in the next few months and possibly do a little more 'dating' for fun. Not going out to try to have sex, but if it happens, hey, it's all in good fun? I'm not keen on the idea of 'settling down', I suppose. I did that for a decade and it didn't work!

kids?
None, and no interest. I am, at present, lacking a biological clock. I'm also pretty selfish and like my freedom and toys. I would be a terrible mother. I'm also OCD and can go through terribly waves of depression and anxiety. My family is not terribly healthy, though I have been spared most of that. I carry the genetics for some nasty stuff, though. I quite honestly wouldn't want to bring a person into the world who would be genetically predisposed to so much awful. *shakes head*

brothers/sisters
None. I'm an only child. My mother got very sick when I was young, and that was that. *shakes head* Actually, and this is bothering me a bit for some reason lately -- we're not Mom's first family. She didn't have any biological children in that relationship, but she helped raise a kid. I think it's that she very rarely mentions it, and it's been 30+ years, but... I'm not sure that's something I'd ever forget. But I'm young... what do I know?

pets
We're down to five rabbits... when I was younger and did 4-H and everything, we had about a hundred. All that's left are five old men: Kaden, Billy, Arnold, Pierre and Kuro. Um... two female ducks that don't really have names. And Mickey, my 17yo cat. This is probably the fewest animals we've had in decades. And everyone is at an age where they have another year or two left and that's it. My parents say they're looking forward to being able to take vacations without worrying, but... I think it'll get lonely. Dad had wanted a dog, but I think I talked him out of it the other day by reminding him that dogs are not self-cleaning and require so much more work than he realizes. The vet's office tried to give us a cat, so I think that when the time comes to adopt a cat again, we'll go there. Especially if we can get one that's mature and won't necessarily be a 20 year commitment. (Mom's in her sixties, now. I can understand her reasoning on that.)

list the 3/5 biggest things going on in your life
* NaNo. Still behind! But... I can do it!
* Um... Life's pretty calm, honestly. No new fandoms, no real drama aside from incidental stuff at work, no huge projects... I'm sorry! It's why I haven't been posting much. Nothing is going on!

parents
I think I just talked about them a lot... Dad just up and quit smoking cold turkey one day. At least, as far as I know, he still has quit. And he stopped drinking as much. Well, he switched to non-alcoholic beer, mostly. He's still drinking a lot of that, but he's not falling down drunk in the evenings, which is the biggest blessing in the world. He's still a bit of a jerk, though -- when he and Mom got home from their mini-vacation, they got in a huge fight and didn't talk for a couple days. *shakes head* But overall, he's much, much better. To the degree where I'm willing to help him with things again, because he is not intolerable.

Mom's okay. She has an auto-immune disease and is undergoing a form of chemotherapy. She's responded to drugs a bit, but cannot taper off. The last time she tried, she ended up in terrible pain and in the ER. So... it may be a long time until she's in remission and drug-free, if ever. But right now she figures it's worth it to be pain-free now even if it takes a few years off her life in the interim.

You know, and I know I sound like a heartless bastard for saying this -- I've been prepared for years for one or both of the 'rents to die. Dad smoked too much, ate horribly and drank himself stupid every night. Mom's sick, and will always be sick. Her initial life expectancy was 'probably won't see me graduate elementary school'... I don't expect Mom to live to a ripe old age, but Dad... might, now.

I'm proud of him, but I have no idea how to say it.

They've been married nearly 29 years, now.

who are some of your closest friends?
Locally, ket_makura, who I met through NaNoWriMo, actually! She lives in town and we go out to eat all the time and have, just, tons of things in common, which is wonderful. And sgt_fobbit, though he is in Afghanistan right now. But will be home soon. There's also bloodstaindnght, though we're still getting to know each other. *chuckles* And midnight12181, of course, though she's moved a bit of a distance. There are some other local people I'm getting to know, as well.

Online, there's elsewherecw, who I love so much and am grateful to have in my life. She's my internet girlfriend. ^_^ And gardensgnome, who I've known since mailing-list days. Actually, there are just tons of people I've known since then who have stayed close. I can't list you all! *hugs and hugs* We all started off talking about a single topic and then got to know each other and fandoms have changed, but we all still care about one another~ In the last... year and a half, I've spent more and more time talking to taichara, as well, and we've formed a close friendship that's been very positive for me. She puts up with a lot from me. ^^;;;;
