I had a pretty crazy day on Wednesday, which culminated in meeting Amanda Palmer in Sheffield!!

So I met a girl called Egg (not her real name, obviously) in the Feminist Society meet-and-greet on Tuesday night (the feminist society was awesome; everyone was so nice and so interesting!), and we sat together in Old Testament studies on Wednesday afternoon.  So we started talking about societies, and I said that I'd joined a Songwriting Society, and that the meet-and-greet didn't go too well (I may rant about that at a later date, if I can be bothered).  So she asked me what kind of music I wrote, and I asked her,
"Uhh... have you heard of a band called the Dresden Dolls?"  And she went crazy and said,
"Yes!!  I'm going to see Amanda Palmer tonight!!"
"OMG!  I wanted to see her but I had no one to go with!"
"You should come tonight!"
"Yes! Yes! Three times yes!!"

So after the lecture, we caught a bus to the city centre, caught a train to Sheffield with a friend of Egg's, and waited outside the venue with another friend of Egg's 2 hours before it opened so we could get front-row spaces.  We met 2 other fans who'd been queueing since about midday, one of which (Ben) had been to 4 of Amanda's other shows already.  He was also dressed very flamboyantly, with Amanda style eyebrows and colourful scarves hanging from his waist.  It attracted some funny "WTF?!" looks from the Sheffield chavs... well, you can just imagine.

We had our front row spaces, it was AWESOME.  Jason Webley and Zoe Keating both had short sets before Amanda came on, and they were both awesome.
Then Amanda came on, and it was just AMAZING.  She had performers and everything, it was so much fun.  They "covered" Rihanna's "Umbrella" (well, the song was playing and they were miming and dancing, with Amanda playing a ukelele), it was awesome.

Afterwards, Amanda was signing autographs and meeting fans outside, so we all went to meet her!  Since I'd come to the gig straight from uni, I still had all my stuff, including my Bible.  So when I sat with her I told her the tale of the day, and I asked her to sign my Bible.  She did, and she signed my ticket too.  She also recommended a book for me called "The End of Mr. Y".  I should've asked her about it to prolong the conversation, but I didn't think of doing so at the time.  I mean, I'm shy enough with strangers, you can just imagine what I was like with a celebrity.  But it was a pretty substantial conversation, I guess.  I also had a picture with her, and she put her arm around me *swoon* :

I bumped into Ben from the front of the queue whilst waiting for the train; he'd seen Amanda so many times that she recognised him and remembered his name!  She signed a tour t-shirt with the caption "Ben - you're my GUITAR HERO".
I hope to one day be remembered by Amanda in the same way as Ben was.
Well, I actually hope to one day be Amanda Palmer's support act, but I believe that is what's known as a pipe dream.

The evening was just perfect.  Today, however, I am incredibly ill  - I have the flu.  The wonderful-ness of Wednesday night is keeping me going though. :)
