Chapter 3
“Nao!!” Hiroto jumped at the sight of his friend. “Why did you leave me yesterday?!” he whined as he took a seat beside Nao.
Nao smiled sheepishly at him. “Sorry, Hiroto. I had to do something urgent yesterday.” He ruffled his friend’s hair. “Did something happen?”
The smaller boy frowned as he remember yesterday’s event. Just thinking about Shou was enough to make his blood boiling. Grabbing his book from his school bag, he put it harshly on his table. “Someone tried to hit on me after you left me in the class.” He grumbled.
“And that’s a bad thing?”
“Yes it is a very BAD thing considering that someone is Kohara Shou!” Hiroto folded his arms and leaned back on his chair.
The taller boy gasped. He grabbed his bag and dig through the content. Pulling out a few piece of paper, he shoved it to his friend. “You mean this Shou?” he asked. Hiroto nodded. “Are you sure? Look closely at the picture!” Nao pointed at the top of the paper.
The smaller boy grabbed the paper and put it on the table without looking at it. “I’m 100% sure! I’m the one who made that list, remember? There’s no way I’ll forget a single person from that papers!” he growled.
“How ironic, the person you avoided the most was hitting on you.” Nao sighed dramatically. “Maybe it’s fate?” he grinned as he folded the papers. Hiroto gave them to him at the beginning of the school year. It was the list of all playboys in the school. There were pictures and their general data such as names and classes. The small boy even updated it every year! He didn’t know where his friend got the information though.
“Don’t even joke about it.” Hiroto pouted. “You should have seen how full he was of himself! He even thought that I have a crush on him!” he shuddered at the memory.
Nao laughed. “What did you do to make him after you anyway?”
“Absolutely nothing!” Hiroto hit the table hard, making all the students in the class turn around to look at him. He smiled sheepishly at the stare and waved them off. “See, he even makes me looked stupid even without being here!” he hissed after everyone back to their activities. “He’s a bad luck.”
Nao shook his head at his friend’s logic but decided to let it go. “Well, how did you meet him?”
The smaller boy grumbled. “I bumped him two days ago and the next thing I knew, he touched my ass!” he widened his eyes, face flushing a bit at the memory. “Can you believe that?! Then yesterday he confronted me when I walked out the class! I couldn’t understand what’s on his mind! And his ego…arghh!” Hiroto stopped ranting and narrowed his eyes as he saw his best friend smiled at him. “What?”
“Nothing” Nao still smiling at the fuming boy. “I’m just thinking that this Shou seemed like an interesting person.”
“What?! Nao, don’t you hear what I just said to you about him? There’s nothing interesting about this guy!”
“Well, if he could make the Mr. nice guy like you ranting like this then he must be an interesting person. I’ve never seen you this work up before.” Nao pinched the whining boy’s cheek. “Like I said, I think it’s fate that you two meet. How romantic…” he sighed dramatically again.
Hiroto rolled his eyes. Why did his friend have a weird sense of romance? And his meeting with the playboy was not romantic at all! **
“Nao, would you stop saying fate and romantic every fifteen minutes?” Hiroto sighed. “I begin to regret telling you anything…”
Nao just slurped his Starbucks happily. “Nah, you’ll end up telling me everything. You love me too much to hiding something for me. Anyway, are you sure you’re going to eat only that?” he pointed at the Curry bread and 100% peach juice. It was break time and the two of them were at the roof for lunch.
The smaller boy rolled his eyes. “Yes, I’m sure. You have to stop asking me that everyday.”
“But you always eat too little for your own good.” Nao reasoned.
“Hiroto! Nao!” the two friends looked up and saw a tall, dark haired man waving at them.
“Tora-shi!” Hiroto’s face lit up and he bounced to the older man.
Tora laughed and ruffled the smaller boy’s hair. “You’re as bouncy as usual.” Hiroto pouted a little. Every time anyone ruffling his hair, he was reminded of his height.
“Don’t pout.” The taller man pinched his cheek.
That only made the small man pouted even harder.
Nao walked over to them and smiled at the newcomer. “Hey, it’s been awhile! We miss you, especially this little squirrel here!” He nudged the still pouting Hiroto. “How’s your grandmother?”
“She’s fine. My mother still stays at her home to take care of her though.” Tora glanced at his watch. “Well, I just wanted to say hi. I have to go now. My homeroom teachers want to talk to me. See you guys later!” he waved and ran back into the school building.
“Well, let’s eat now. I’m starving!” Nao pulled Hiroto back to their food after the older student gone from their sight.
The two sat down and were about to eat their food when suddenly the smaller student shivered and got a bad feeling. He tugged at Nao’s sleeve. The taller boy looked at him questioningly. “Nao? I feel like something bad is going to co-”
“Hi-ro-pon!” something or rather someone tackled the small boy from behind, making him yelped. Beside him, Nao also let out a little scream in surprise.
Hiroto and Nao’s eyes flew to the figure behind Hiroto. Shou was smiling brightly at them while he hugged the smallest student there.
“What did you call me??!” the small student was too shocked to move from the taller student grasp.
“Hiropon! That’s a cute name, right? I thought about it myself!” Shou said proudly. “Don’t you happy that you got such a cute name from me?” He hugged Hiroto tighter when he saw the boy redden a bit. “Hiropon!”
“My name Hiroto not Hiropon! I don’t want any nicknames from you! Didn’t I tell you to stop following me?!” Hiroto struggled to release himself from the other boy. “Nao!” he ran to hide behind his class mate.
“Oh, hi there! My name is Kohara Shou, nice to meet you!” Shou looked like he just realized that there’s someone else there beside his cute target. Smiling, he offered his right hand to Nao.
The small student watched his enemy from behind his best friend. Nao would surely protect him from this wolf, right? He looked at the offered hand of Shou. Hit it Nao! You didn’t want to make friends with him! The little student thought. He was positive that his friend would reject Shou’s attempt to make friends with him.
“Hi, I’m Murai Naoyuki, nice too meet you!” Nao smiled back and shook Shou’s hand.
“Nao!” Hiroto widened his eyes in shock. He gaped at his best friend. How could he betray him?
Unfortunately, Hiroto’s shout made Shou’s attention back to him. “Come on, Pon. Let’s eat together!” he pulled Hiroto to sit between him and Nao.
“Pon?!” The small boy shrieked as he was pulled from behind Nao who didn’t do anything to help him.
The older student ignored Hiroto’s shriek and opened the bento he bought at the canteen.
Nao clapped his hand excitedly. “Hey, that’s a great idea! Let’s eat!” he also opened his bento. “Itadakimasu!”
Hiroto looked back and forth between his enemy and his so-called-best friend. The two of them were eating their bento happily. Sighing in defeat, he opened the plastic of his Curry bread and took a bite. He closed his eyes, enjoying his meal.
Feeling someone watching him, he opened his eyes and was startled to find Shou’s face so close to his. He moved back a little.
“You only eating that for lunch?” he pointed the bread with his chopstick.
“It’s not your business!” Hiroto frowned, hiding his bread protectively behind him.
“He always eats so little everyday. I always tell him to eat more but he always refuses.” Nao informed Shou, ignoring the glare his friend gave him.
“You have to eat more or you won’t grow tall and healthy like me…well maybe it’s too late for the height thing.” Shou smirked at him.
“Why yo-umph!” Hiroto opened his mouth to yell at the playboy but he got an egg roll shoved into his mouth instead.
“Eat!” Hiroto chewed the egg automatically at the command. He was not the person who like to waste food.
“You-mpmmph!” This time a sausage was shoved into his mouth.
Shou grinned. “It’s tasty, isn’t it?” he seemed happy as he shoved more food to the smaller student every time Hiroto opened his mouth.
Amused, Nao was looking silently at the two of them. This was the first time he saw someone who could make his stubborn friend as helpless as he was now. Hiroto was looking at him, wanting some help as Shou forced more food to him but Nao decided to just watch them. His friend could use some more food to his small body. He just smiled at them and took a sip of his Starbucks.
“Now that wasn’t so bad, right?” Shou smiled in satisfactory as he shoved the last of his food to Hiroto.
The small man panted when he finished chewing the last bite. Shou was shoving foods non-stop to him, making it hard to take a breath. “You…”Hiroto growled, his hands shaking in anger. “How dare yo-“
“Shou, there you are! I was searching for you everywhere!” Hiroto was cut off by the newcomer.
“Hi, Saga! We just finished eating lunch!” Shou waved at his class mate.
Saga’s eyes looked amused as he caught sight of Hiroto. Too bad he wasn’t here earlier. It wasn’t hard to see that Shou wasn’t welcome here from the look of the small student gave him. He wanted to watch Hiroto rejected his best friend again. It was funny and refreshing. Saga walked closer to them. His eyes catch a sight of Nao and he smiled charmingly at him. “Hi…”
Suddenly his sight of Nao was blocked by a fuming Hiroto. “Don’t you dare to go near him, Sakamoto Saga!”
His eyes met with Saga. Despite the tough act Hiroto gave him, the taller student could see the worry and fear for his best friend in his eyes. Saga’s softened his gaze and flicked the smaller student forehead. “Don’t worry. I won’t do anything to him.” He said softly.
Nao tapped his class mate on the shoulder and smiled reassuringly at him. He offered his hand to Saga. “I’m Murai Naoyuki, nice to meet you Sakamoto Saga.”
Shou bounced over to them and put his arm around Hiroto as their friend shook hands. The smaller man attention shifted to the taller man. He hit the arm on his shoulder but Shou wouldn’t let go. Hiroto frowned and pinched him. The older man yelped, letting go of the small boy reflexively.
Hiroto took this chance to hide behind his best friend again.
Shou was about to grabbed the small student again when his own best friend stopped him. “Stop molesting him, Shou.” Saga said. “Sakura is searching for you right now. You promised her a lunch date, remember?
“Shit! I forgot!” he widened his eyes. He turned to Hiroto who still hiding behind Nao and winked at him. “Well, I have to go now. See you later, Pon!” “Hey, wait!” Shou and Saga was about to open the door when Hiroto called. He threw something at Shou. The older raised his hand to catch it. It was Hiroto’s Curry bread. There was a little bite on top of the bread but other than that, the bread was practically untouched. He looked up at the smaller man in confusion.
“I don’t want to owe you anything. You gave me your lunch and I gave you mine. We’re even.” Hiroto huffed, folding his arms.
Shou beamed and blew him a kiss. “I know you love me, Pon!” He laughed and closed the door quickly before Hiroto’s juice hit him on the face.
“My name is Hiroto!” The small boy yelled at the closed door. “And I don’t love you!” he added. Argh! That playboy always made him mad!
He turned around and found Nao looked at the door dreamily. “That was so romantic.” Nao mumbled.
Hiroto twitched at the words. “Nao! He has a lunch date with a girl! What’s so romantic about that?!” he asked in disbelief.
“But he forgot about that date and ate lunch with you instead!” Nao exclaimed.
Hiroto groaned. Maybe he should find a new friend with a normal sense of romance.
