I'd like people to read Chip's very interesting entry on the multitude and variations of truth. I was going to reply to the entry in the form of a comment but since I have quite a bit to say about the topic, I decided to make my own entry.
I agree with Chip. Truth is not a single entity. Truth is a word that far too often, people consider the truth as the simple truth during discourse. However, while it's important to distinguish the specific measures of truth for a better realization of matter, the first thing one must do to observe truth is to measure its reasonable objectivity. This measure must be applied before the assumption can be made that different situations (measures) of truth can give different answers of whether something is true.
Here is a shortened breakdown of the subsystems of truth:
Objective Truth Truth is universal and absolute. Truth is a common perception of what is within the realm of physical reality. Objective truth can be applied from simple observations ("The sky is blue.") to mathematical and scientific analysis (see Chip's Mathematical Truth).
Subjective (or Descriptive) Truth Truth can be extended to the familiarity of information, but truth can be interpreted as an assumption of fact. Theories, logic and ideas with the probability of correctness/incorrectness -- in proportion to opinion -- are a subjective truth but the end-result (or the materialized sum) of these ideas can be Objective Truth. One can determine what is based on the application of their own specialized process (see Chip's Science Truth).
Theological-Epistemological Truth Truth is the finite relationship between belief and knowledge. Belief is commonly perceived as knowledge and knowledge is commonly perceived as truth. The truth is a means of preserving the betterment of one's own life. According to Plato's Theaetetus, the notion is established that traditionally defined knowledge is "justified truth belief" but justification can only be rendered by the realization of objective truth. This form of truth is traditionally authoritative.
I'm planning to add to this list throughout my lifetime.
