John McCain is terrified of Barak Obama. He has looked around and sees that the young senator from Illinois can and possibly will be the next president. Shades of the last presidential race when Bush, i.e. Karl Rove, realized John Kerry could win. So, he, Rove, launched the Swift Boats, and the generally ignorant American voters bought it. (Rove saw McCain creeping up on Bush in the North Carolina primary and gutted him like a fish with telephone ads alleging McCain had fathered a baby by a North Korean woman while he was a POW. South Carolina voters bought it and McCain went down in flames.)

Now the old man from Arizona is trying to make Obama into a shallow Hollywoodesque celebrity because Obama is the man of the hour.

Here is my appeal to John McCain: I think it will backfire, Senator John, because anyone with half a brain, which it is doubtful many American voters have, know that your attack stems from fear and jealously. Look, senator, John F. Kennedy was the media darling of 1959. Crowds figuratively killed each other to see him, hear him and touch him. Few by comparison wanted to see Richard Nixon. It also was said Kennedy did not have the experience to lead, but when he crushed Tricky Dick in debates, most Americas changed their minds.

You're right, though, Obama is a celebrity. People want to see and hear a candidate that has something new to say, something dynamic and different to offer. Yeah, he's making promises he will not be able to keep, but so are you and so has every candidate for president since George Washington. If a president keeps all his promises he will not be much of a president because he will not be looking at the "moment" and deciding what best to do.

And yeah, some of his ideas will not work, but neither will yours. No president has had or will have all the answers, except Bush in Bush's mind. Finally, yeah, he doesn't have a vast amount of experience to be president, but neither do you. The only person with experience to be president is the president who enters his second term. None of your years has made you ready, or readier, because you have never been a president or a governor. Where have you ever led? In the Service? Please, you were shot down and imprisoned before you could lead. Please get off that kick.

However, you are singing a familiar and boring old tune, called "Carry Me Back to 2001 WB (With Bush)". You and George are joined at the hip. The only thing that will change if you are elected will be your body seated in the Oval Office; Bush's brain will drive you. John, people want to see the Bush years over. Even many of your GOP comrades want to see it over. That's why Obama is a star and that's why you're scared out of your mind and jealous as a jilted lover. Like T.S. Eliot's "Prufrock", you're old, you wear the bottoms of your trousers rolled, and you're borrrring.

Mr. McCain, go back to Arizona, enjoy your wife's money, slosh around in your war hero spotlight (You were once a celebrity, too. Remember?), and leave us alone. Your day is done. (As is mine at 69.) Obama's generation is taking over, just like JFK's New Generation of Americans. As JFK admonished, "ask what you can do for your country." The answer, dear old man, is to crawl off home and wait for death to take you as it does everyone. Enjoy your sunset years; believe me, they're wonderful.
