Now that the new year has arrived and we've all recovered from the shock of an ending vacation, it's time to get back to business. Thankfully, though, my business is toys and I've got a bunch of new figures to look at, so you won't hear me complaining.
(too much)
So here's what's new:

From George Romero's classic film series that's grown to include Night, Day, Dawn and more, we've got a brand new zombie as part of NECA's Cult Classic line. It's a little weird, but here goes...it's the Hare Krishna zombie! Wearing exactly what you would imagine he might wear, he roams the empty streets giving out pamphlets, devouring brains and playing his tambourine (really--he comes with a tambourine). As for the figure itself, it's from NECA, so it's beautifully painted and really well-sculpted, but don't expect it to move. It's got a couple joints, but in true NECA fashion it's more of a semi-poseable sculpture than anything else. It's a great piece for those looking for a nice addition to their display shelves, but if you have any other more action-y plans for this guy, you might want to look for someone more articulated.

Like >Wonder Woman for example! From DC Direct, these figured feature Donna Troy as Wonder Woman, Diana Prince as Wonderwoman and as a special agent (as seen in One Year Later) and, for good measure, the villainous Circe. There's something about these figures that I really like. They're just so clean. Clean angles, clean paint jobs, simplified without being too cartoonish but still with a certain artistic flare--at least in the prototypes. The actual execution differs a little bit, but not so much that it's a problem--everyone's just a little less substantial. Still, I'm a DC girl so I'll always be glad when they catch up and make something really nice--too many years and too many bad licenses made quality DC figures hard to come by for a long time.

The Marvel Super Hero Squad figures, however, I don't know how to feel about. On one hand, my girlish nature stipulates that I should find them very cute. On the other hand, though, I have the distinct impression that characters like Apocalypse and Galactus would probably resent being rendered in such a cute and cherubic fashion. Of course, they are villains so it's possible that the insult of being cuted-up is well-deserved. I'll leave that for you to decide. |
