Movie: The Spiderwick Chronicles by dev_androgyny ()

Plot Outline: When the Grace family moved into the Spiderwick Estate, Jared finds a book written by Arthur Spiderwick about faeries and other worldly creatures. His family gets pulled into the chaos as the evil Mulgarath and his band of orgres attempt to steal the book and kill them.

When I first decided to watch The Spiderwick Chronicles, I was prepared for family movie entertainment. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this movie was thrilling in its own way and ensnared by its highly imaginative creations. Sure, the plot is simple but the characters held their own.

Although faeries and orgres are not new to us, Spiderwick presents another aspect of these creatures to us. The faeries live amongst the humans through clever adaptation of its surroundings. Some of the creatures had flowing dresses that looked like the petals of flowers, others take on the form of flowers. It kinds of reminds you of the creatures we know, for instance, the stick insect.

The pace of the movie was just right, with the right twists and turns at the appropriate times. The narrative structure was frankly, one of the better fantasy-family genre I have seen so far. Even with the old cliches, Spiderwick still manages to rise above the other kiddy fantasy movies.
