The Simpsons Movie is essentially a 90 minute version of the show. This is not like say Beavis and Butthead Do America, which takes the familiar characters and puts them into an unfamiliar, USA coast to coast spanning adventure, quite a difference from the show where they never left Highland. Although The Simpsons Movie lacks the grand-spanning adventure and dare I say plot of Beavis and Butthead Do America, this is not necessarily a bad thing since the show is really good as The Simpsons have outlived The Tracy Ullman show that spawned it and Married with Children that it was paired with seemingly forever after all. The Simpsons Movie takes a few more risks than the TV show, but still seems to fall short of the crass standard set by shows like South Park, Family Guy, and American Dad. Which may be a good thing, since this movie can be viewed by most kids without too much of a problem. There are a lot of things to look for in the background too, which makes it easy to watch the movie again and again to look for things you missed. And again this is a good thing if you have kids who tend to like to want to watch their favorite movies again and again. There isn't really too much of a plot to spoil either. After years of environmental abuse by Springfield, the Environmental Protection Agency, the EPA, steps in to Quarantine the city from the rest of the USA. And it is up to the Simpsons to save Springfield from the Quarantine. Basically, watch it if you like the TV show, and if you don't like the TV show, why would you watch the movie?

As for The Last Legion? Check your brain at the door, because this movie is based on a fictional book and has no basis in truth or reality as far as I can tell. Essentially, The Last Legion attempts to tell the story of the last Caesar of the Roman Empire after the burning and sacking of Rome by the Goths. During the attack on Rome, the boy Caesar's mother and father are killed and his is captured by the Goths. After escaping and finding the sword of Julius Caesar with the help of the mysterious sage that taught the boy, and a daring rescue attempt by his remaining Royal Guards, he is nearly sold out by Constantinople and the Senate to the Goths. After accessing all his options, the boy Caesar determines their last chance to make a stand is with the Ninth Legion in Britannia, if it still exists. After finding the Ninth Legion, the Goths chasing him finally catch up and ally with the sage's mortal enemy who wants the sword to claim rule over all Britannia. After a climactic last battle, the boy Caesar declares peace and tosses the sword into a stone. And of course, the Arthurian Legend is born. I liked the movie, but I am sure babe, Aishwarya Rai who played Mira, had a lot to do with that. This movie may be just worth watching for her alone. This is not a Gore-fest like 300, and it has a PG-13 rating, so it is fairly safe to watch with your family too. I was almost tempted to throw in Merlin on DVD after watching this, but the 4 hour run time is just killer.
