  • Farrah Fawcett (1947 - 2009)
Also, Farrah Fawcett, an actress whose rose into international fame when she first appeared as private investigator Jill Munroe in the TV series Charlie's Angels in 1976 has died of anal cancer today at 9:18 AM PDT at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California and nearly three years after being diagnosed with the disease. Ryan O'Neal, the longtime companion who returned to her side when she became ill was with her at the time of her death. She was 62.

She was born on 2 February 1947 in Corups Christi, Texas as Mary Farrah Leni Fawcett named by her mother. She was a sex symbol with a winsome smile, tousled hair and unfettered sensuality. Her first appearance was a guest spot on I Dream of Jeannie in the 1968-1969 season, followed by guest appearances in Owen Marshall: Counselor as Law. She then latter appeared in The Six Million Dollar Man with Lee Majors, which first aired in 1974. On 21 March 1976, her first appearance as the character Jill Munroe in Charlie's Angels was aired as a move of the week. The movie also starred Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith. At the time the movie aired, she was billed as Farrah Fawcett-Majors. The trio were private investigators for Townsend Associates in which was a detective agency run by a reclusive multi-millionaire whom the women had never met. The trio were accompanied by two male associates played by character actors David Doyle and David Ogden Stiers. The movie earned a huge Nielsen rating, causing ABC to air it a second time and approve production for a series which formerally debuted on 22 September 1976.

She later appeared off-Broadway to the approval of critics and in highly rated television movies in roles often challenging and sometimes unsympathetic. For the rest of this story on the legacy of Farrah Fawcett, read this Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farrah_Fawcett
