This is the best summary of the economic crisis to date.
I'm not sure who came up with it, but I found this little gem . I find it immensely funny...but I suppose anyone who's not into Stargate might not. I'm pretty disturbed, though. I read this morning about McCain having to defend Obama from false accusations at a "town meeting" in Lakeville last...
I've been attempting to figure out how to write a post on some of the basics of antenna theory (since Susan asked). However, I'm leery of recreating the same experience I had upon taking my first engineering course. I was a junior and had just finished taking electromagnetics in the physics dept. I heard about this course being offered in engineering called, "Numerical Techniques in ...
I guess I'm due for another "use big words good" post. (And you know who you are that said this.) :-) In the post introducing metamaterials , I spent a lot of time talking about how the negative index of refraction causes light to bend the "wrong way" in a metamaterial. Officially, a metamaterial is any substance which must be constructed and doesn't occur in nature. When dealing with ...
I handed in final copies of my thesis yesterday. I'm officially done. Forever. I'm now a Master. Bwahahaha. Then I packed up and drove to Minneapolis. It was a late night, and I spent a lot of time thinking about some technical posts to write. (Driving is good thinking time.) The drive was nice, except for the freak cloud burst where I couldn't see the road for 10 seconds. I also started to ...

I've been contemplating writing up a few posts on metamaterials since I've spent the last few months immersing myself in the topic. This morning I saw that there is another big announcement pending, so I figured now is a good time to get motivated. ( bluetrekker , I hope this is nerdy enough for you.) The most intuitive place to start discussing metamaterials is generally index of ...
Caught in the act
It's taken me months, but I finally got photographic evidence that the cat does sleep with younger son. He doesn't believe this because, as soon as the cat realizes there are people awake, he runs and hopes no one realizes that he's really "mother-hen cat" and that his "really aloof cat" facade is not yet broken.
