Missy at the marathon
This is my friend and bellydance student, Missy. She was the only one brave enough to dance with me at the marathon this year. She got to wear the choli that a friend brought me from India last Christmas.
Even though I was sick and couldn't dance much, we had a lot of fun hanging out.
A Futuristic Box
In my office, we have what looks like a giant metal box dropped into the middle of the room. If you look inside, however, you get an entirely different feel. It seems futuristic. The walls, floor, and ceiling are all covered with black, elongated pyramids: they are cones that absorb electromagnetic energy. The white squares are just a special type of styrofoam ...
Riding a Hog
My sister and her other half bought a Harley and dropped by to show us. Of course, younger son immediately wanted to ride. Next he's going to be wanting a driver's license. 09-02-2007
Today, you get two pictures. Lucky you. First, Amber Waves will be performing yet again at the Fargo Marathon. We'll be down on the intersection of River Dr. and Kennedy in south Fargo from 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Please come to hang out and cheer on the runners. They need all the encouragement they can get! Just to whet your appetites, here's a picture from our first year at the marathon...when it ...
Sunset from the car
I took this picture on 3-29-08, on my way back from Minneapolis. Yes, I was driving and my window was rolled up. I don't think I could've done it with a film camera.
Anyway, there was an awesome sunset with some major crepuscular ray action going. The really cool thing, however, was that the light above the sun was refracting into a needle-like shape. It didn'...
I just downloaded a boatload of pictures. Rather than inundate you all in one day (and to save time), I'm going to upload them one or two at a time. This one was on my trip to the Big City in March to check out the Really Big University (U of MN - Twin Cities...it's three times the size of NDSU). On Saturday, the dept. administrative goddess took a couple of us on a driving tour of the area, and...
... the country and you have to be prepared for anything weather-wise. I like the idea of having four seasons so I can't complain....much. :) I just got done reading a post from mareserinitatis about the rudeness and self-serving behavior of local politicians and their minions. This prompted me to post a good-ol'-fashioned rant about something that's been bugging me for some time now: the ...
THE GAME RULES - Once you've been tagged, you have to write a blog with 8 facts/things/habits about yourself, saying who tagged you. 1 - I love doing yoga. 2 - I have a tattoo of the Eye of Horus. 3 - I am a big fan of screwed up/misfit love story movies (Quills, Roxanne, The Secretary, etc.) 4 - I still play D&D (and its variations). 5 - I am at the healthiest point I have ever been in my ...
..., updating a list drawn up by Rowntree, a Quaker, 104 years ago. The responses may well have dismayed him. The researchers found that the “dominant opinion” was that religion was a “social evil”. Many participants said religion divided society, fuelled intolerance and spawned “irrational” educational and other policies. Read the entire article here. Cross-posted to mareserinitatis

Phobos as seen by HiRISE camera from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter

For more info, you might want to read this article or here, where I got the pic . But if you don't want to, the gist is that you're looking at Phobos, one of the moons of Mars. It's a false color image taken by ...
