T. L. Morganfield's "Thinking about my race"

Something showed up in my Google Alerts this morning that gave me pause. Over at [info]james_nicoll 's blog, someone posted a table of "statistics" on the winners and nominees of the Sidewise Award for this year. This person had dug around enough to figure out my age, my gender, my marital status, and how many children I have, but also decided to list my "race" (as "white"). And I bristled.

Worldcon report: day 1

So, a little bit more in the way of actual con reporting… (usual disclaimer applies: I have a bad memory, and it was a really busy con, so there’s probably going to be holes…) Wednesday: The day started pretty early on Wednesday for me and Matthieu, since the plane was leaving at 11:00 (wakeup time: 6:00am). We’d packed ahead of time: the only pause in that came when we’d finished piling up...

Quickie post-worldcon post

The con was great: met lots of new people and had lots of fun. Sunday was spent, as envisioned, on sheer adrenaline, going through two panels and a reading with a mounting heartrate, before rushing back to the hotel room to change into my evening dress for the Hugos. And the Hugo Awards… Well, it’s a good thing that they started out with the Campbell, which saved us nominees a lot of freaking...

Shameless plugging

Huge congrats to T.L. Morganfield , whose story “Night Bird Soaring” is a finalist for the Sidewise Awards  !!!   On his sixth birthday, Totyoalli’s parents took him to the holy city to see the Emperor Cuauhtemoc, but the plane ride proved the most exciting part. He kept his nose to the window, taking in the vast lands of the One World, from the snow-capped mountains of his home in the northern...

ROF, Brasyl

Apparently, ROF is not dead but is being taken over by Tir Na Nog Press: http://sfscope.com/2009/03/realms-of-fantasy-is-not-closi.html I'm allowing myself some cautious optimism that "Melanie" and "Desaparecidos" will see print, as well as tlmorganfield 's and ckastens 's awesome stories (I know tlmorganfield had art, which makes it a likely candidate for one of the next...

Realms of Fantasy

I'm a little late (as usual), but man how hard does the ROF news suck. It was by far the nicest looking mag around, not to mention there was a bunch of lj friends with stories coming up. It's a market I never tried (I guess I was slowly working my way up to it) and was about to send one off after the Chinese New Year for the halloween issue. Sad, sad, day. Big condolences to aliettedb   ...

Been reading the news about ROF closing shop. Friends:  aliettedb  , tlmorganfield  and ckastens  had sold stories to this mag and it's still a question as to whether these stories will come out in the final issue.  Following Aliette's prompting I had decided to make this the year I would attempt ROF. Alas, that resolution is scratched.
