So excited I found this community

So I asked this question in sew_hip  and someone directed me here, so here goes... Boyfriend came up to me last night and told me I should make a plushie Dalek.. SO, my question to you all is : have any of you done this before, and if so please HELP! I can sew clothing, but making stuffed animals/creatures has never been my strong point. Our 4 year anniversary is coming up in August, and...

I didn't get the hot pads finished until the last minute (bad, rolley !); however, I did get a set made for everyone that attended. The ones left were one done by me and one done by rbf . The one I have isn't the nicest one; however, I can proudly display it since I did it all by myself (except for "gluing" the fabrics together - that does require two people when one of them is me). I am learning...

owl eggs!

Found them over at: sew_hip , hoot! Finally completed the owl eggs. Patchwork: hand sewn. Eggs: about 2 .5 inches tall, machine sewn using muslin cloth, stuffed with polyester fiber. They are now nesting at home. But you can adopt them too :) Just give me a hoot for details. xposted to hapitree & cute_plush

[sewing] Booty shorts-- complete!

The first draft of the booty shorts has been entirely completed, and was much easier than I had thought it would be. It was dead easy. I handsewed the whole thing, because a machine straight stitch is worse than useless for stretch. I had Googled for patterns, but found nothing. Fascinatingly, I did find a great site by a former swimwear designer, all about designing for negative ease-- i.e. sewing...

Adjusting store patterns to a not accounted size?

Ello! I found the best dress pattern at the craft store today, it's exactly what Ive been looking for however; of course, they don't make it in my (plus) size. But I bought it in hope I could figure out how to adjust or change a store bought pattern in to the same design but in my size. Does any one have any experience in doing this? Does any one know of any resources that are really good at this...

More bags and tutorial feedback

Posted on sew_hip I made a few more bags for my friends and MIL based on "Tiny Happy's Tutorial . I got some "end-user" feedback which I'll share with you guys. First though, I want to point out the changes I made from the original tutorial. I deepened the bag 2" so that it was 12" deep (instead of 10" as shown in her drawing.) I kept the strap 18" so it ended up being 30" total (including seam...

potential yay?

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-lead7-2009jan07,0,6917858.story they (you know, the big They.) are looking at changing the lead-testing laws so that thrift stores and small businesses (or, say, people who sell on etsy) wouldn't be hit quite so hard. i highly recommend reading the link because it contains information on how to sign up for when the commission has a 30-day "public comment period"...

PJ pants?

Hello everyone. This might sound like a STUPID question, but does anyone know roughly how much material I would need to make a pair of Pj pants? I was thinking about 2m/2yards. Should I buy an extra yard just in case? I was gonna post asking for a pattern, but I've decided (After hours trauling patterns last night) to make my own out of some old pants, haha!) x-posted to sew_hip
