Away, Summer!

It makes me a bit sad that I've finished re-reading all of Jane Austen's books. I miss them already. Fortunately, a couple of things are around to restore my happiness. I dug through a pile of books and unearthed my volume containing three novels by Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz (recipient of the 1988 Nobel Prize for literature.) I'd forgotten I had it, and it's entirely unread! New tales! I've...

Three Things Meme

That Meme -  from scottobear Post 3 things you've done in your lifetime that you don't think anybody else on your friends list has done. See if anybody else responds with "I've done that." If they have, you need to add another. Have your friends cut & paste this into their journal to see what unique things they've done in their life. 1.  Been to the DMZ between North and South Korea. ...

Wet

Rain, rain, rain away, Make a very wet Earth Day. A bonus is that the rain made it a bit (though not much) warmer today. That makes it unlikely that ice will form on the roads and cause cars to go sliding off into utility poles, which could make my electricity go away. I will probably get to stay warm while listening to the rain water the plants outside my window. Being warm while listening to rain...

Grumpy Old Cannibals

Yesterdays post about Charlton Heston dying, inexorably led to scottobear and I trading jokes about Soylent Green. Today I learn that Ted Turner was going on about global warming leading to cannibalism in another ten or twenty years... Coincidence? Well, yeah but still funny.

Who Put the Goat in There?

OK I was recently nudged by scottobear to get back to posting and I will. So as a warm up I give you this crazy video. I'm guessing it some crazy Bollywood thing. More importantly it warning of the horrible things that can happen when pop music is assimilated by other cultures. Note as the video explains the subtitles are not a translation just what the guy thinks what they are saying sound...

Thursday Right on Schedule

Rain returned today, so the weather has done pretty much what I told it to do. I now realize that I am awesome! I'm thinking about telling it to rain beer next. Anyway, busy again and so no long post, but a link (via scottobear ): Nightmare Playgrounds . Mostly eastern European, these playgrounds contain some of the most astonishing objects ever to be used as play equipment (oh, the elephant...
