Wedding TODO

There are quite a lot of things you need to plan when you get married. Some people (particularly but not exclusively wealthy Americans) even hire wedding planners to help them plan. Many of my friends told me that it would be an epic task to plan the wedding, but so far it's not really worked out like that. I think I'm a particularly good planner, and I'm determined to get most things done well in...

wedding fairs and cliches

I went to a wedding fair a couple of weeks ago. It was much as I expected - lots of pretty things I couldn't afford (dresses, flowers, hats, cars) and some I wasn't really interested in (chair covers, make-up artists, John Cleese impersonations). I went with some friends: J, who's recently married, E, who's getting married in December and L, my bridesmaid, mostly for the fun of it and to look for ideas...

Drama, science, evolution, morality - the usual

Link roundup and browser tab closing time... Expel the evildoer from among you If you're not reading back over my old entries (why not? I used to be much better before I jumped the shark), you might not have noticed that there was some LJ drama over the last one . robhu conclusively won the debate on whether complementarianism is sexist by the cunning ploy of banning me from commenting...

Being uncomplimentary about complementarians

Readers: in a recent thread on robhu 's journal, Rob said I had misrepresented complementarians (of which he is one). I'm not sure how many of you click the links in my postings and have noticed that I occasionally have a joke with them, but to be clear, on the occasions where I have linked the word complementarian to Houseplants of Gor , I did not mean to imply that complementarians are...

Ruth Gledhill on Camp Quest: atheist camp?

Ruth Gledhill has written about Camp Quest UK , which describes itself as "the first residential summer camp for the children of atheists, agnostics, humanists, freethinkers and all those who embrace a naturalistic rather than supernatural world view". She doesn't seem to approve, and spends much of the article telling us how good Christian summer camps are, before giving way to Celestine Heaton...

Interesting GAFCON / FCA post

emperor has made an interesting post (with even more interesting comments) about the whole Global Anglican Futures CONference (GAFCON) / Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (FCA) thing happening at the moment. This is big news at the moment to Anglicans because of decisions made by the the official American arm of Anglicanism . There's some analysis by Bishop Tom Wright as well. Cross...

Heat is work and work's a curse

Ken again Andrew Brown went to the lecture on God and evolution by Ken Miller , the one which robhu mentioned in the comments last time. Brown was impressed by Miller. I commented using the same arguments as my previous posting. The wonderful thing about standards is In other news, top geneticist Francis Collins has started his own Christian apologetics site, Biologos.org...
