Professor Steve Jones is an idiot.

I already told mundens about this, but it annoys me enough I'm lifting it out of comments. Professor Steve Jones is an idiot . Either that, or he's being tragically misquoted. According to the Independent, Professor Jones asserts "Human evolution is grinding to a halt. This is as good as it gets." Jones goes on to assert that small, isolated populations might still show evolutionary pressures...

Nice descriptive newspaper article on the bloody battle of Towton, and its low profile in the UK today, via exmoor_cat . Also, ever wanted a genuine long-term back up ? Alas, I don't have a spare $25,000. Via mundens And something on the drinking age , via jwm .

music

I just set up a spare desk of mundens in my office and then proceeded to plonk all my music gear on it and hooked it all up to a spare computer which is now dedicated to music (the desktop background is of graffiti that says "without music, life would not be fair"). It's nice having space for a keyboard+mouse, full length midi keyboard, Hercules DJ console, and my Lemur, along with a 19"...

Friday night was an evening of events both expected and unexpected, twists and turns and a few drunken exposures to work-mates and clients I am lucky are not going to cause too much trouble. The presence of older, successful nonconformists has given me courage to cease my persistent and painful self-censorship. I am regarded as deeply eccentric by some, and charmingly divergent by others. The pressure...

'Cause Mundens else did it: Questions about sex

'Cuz mundens dared me to: You must include this link to Sex Talk - Sex Advice for Men You must answer every question! If you don’t have a good answer, you are strongly encouraged to make up something good; we like to be entertained. You must tag three people. I'm taking volunteers on the last one. Sex in the Morning or Sex at Night? Pretty much anytime. Morning's better...

Playing at grown-ups

My stuff is all unpacked and placed around and about, the lawns are all tamed, we had a plantgasm on Saturday and consequently we now have gardens of floweriness (at least, they will be when they get a bit bigger) and I've caught up on my washing. When I got my clothes off the line on Friday evening, they smelled like Sunshine! I promptly replaced them with more, which have been hanging there ever...

Tor will use your free time for free

Tor has a list where you can sign up for free ebooks. Mundens alerted me to it a while back. I thought, "what the hell, I keep thinking I should try to find some new authors," and signed up. The first book I was sent was Brandon Sanderson's "Mistborn", which I did enjoy. I found it a little simplistic, to the point where I didn't expect to be able to re-read it, although that will change. The...
