A twist on the usual Movie Quiz... this one has been making the circuits on moviebuffs . I tried to go easy on this since my last MQ was a bit on the tough side! Step 1: Go to IMDB and find movie quotes from your favorite actors/actresses. (Best way to do this is to go to the actor/actress's page, click the character’s name, then choose Top Links>Quotes from left-hand column.) Step 2: Post...
So, in honor of a post in moviebuffs that startled the hell out of me with its title ("Yo Joe!") and gave me a truly insane thought for a second, but was actually about the new G.I. Joe movie that's slated to come out this year (kill me now, I know), I decided to write a list of things I consider insane about G.I. Joe. You can dissect a lot about the the intersection of consumerism and norms/stereotypes...
cross-posted to moviebuffs I don't know why I'm surprised every year that the Academy Awards people have worked so hard to recognize the best in mid-brow mediocrity but here we go again. For best picture you have two movies that probably deserved to be nominated, The Reader and Slumdog Millionare , despite the latter's problematic ending. Then you have two interesting stories that are...
Based on an essentially speechless review in moviebuffs a while back, I decided I wanted to see Synecdoche, New York. As luck would have it, it came to Lincoln this weekend, so my mother and I went to see it. Wow, how great is Black Narcissus? I've been meaning to watch Black Narcissus for a very long time and finally had the opportunity when it appeared on Film4 earlier. Just unbelievable. I'd seen the ending at the belltower somewhere before, luckily guessing it was from Black Narcissus. What a superb film. I personally think it's the best Powell / Pressburger film. On a much more shallow note...
No, I haven't been on a movie binge. These are all the movies I've watched since June but never got around to posting. And they're mostly from the summer because work has really been screwing up my movie time lately . . I think I've only seen one movie in the past two months! o_O 209. Sophie Scholl - 8 210.
