This past weekend I attended the 4th Street Fantasy Convention , and these are my notes about what I found useful and interesting and what thoughts and ideas I had that were sparked from these panels: * How to Sound Smart on Panels. * How Has Fantasy Changed in the Last 20 Years. * Reasons Things Go Wrong ... In the Crafting of Stories. MP3s of the (so far) first two days of panels . ...
My karma, it is instant. A couple of days ago, I accidentally injured mischief03 while in martial arts class. Today, I accidentally injured myself. I lunged forward*, my knee turned out--and there was an awful pain in my knee as the joint did something it shouldn't ought to. I fell over, making the usual pain noises, swearing and so forth. There was much help and icing and eventually it felt...
I broke one of my favorite people tonight. We were working on arm-bars in grappling class and I got leverage at just the wrong angle and there was a pop-crunch noise and a really emphatic tap-out. Meep. I really hope it was just a temporary elbow dislocation or something else that will be fine on its own soon. And in the future, I will remember that mischief03 is a delicate flower...

Maybe of interest to those whose schedules aren't convenient, but who are interested in studying martial arts or just generally getting in shape: my dojang has added classes over the lunch hour. They cover the same material as the evening classes. Students can attend all or either ( mischief03 is going to the noon class as well as three hours of evening classes. I'm working up to that level...
06/26/2008 - Thursday, half work at NgithOwl, but then I came home and fell asleep on the kitchen floor instead of writing * Read newsletters: FFWSmallMarkets - got some market ideas for CSA-based nonfic articles; FundsforWriters; Critters; and WritersWeekly. * Processed Ballista's personal rejection of "Demons of Disease" - enjoyed it, but aren't taking it. * Processed Vulgata's personal rejection...
Home from Wisconsin. Gathered truly excessive quantities of loot, mostly from The Mad Scientist, who really did go craaaazy (list forthcoming). Himself spent quality time with his godson and niece. I managed to stay mostly sane, despite lack of internet access for most of the visit. I also caught a nasty cold (or brought it with me); today was worse than yesterday, so I'm hoping tomorrow's better!...
Worked all day, and will tomorrow as well, on the theory that I should make money while I can. Work availability isn't exactly predictable at the Owl, and I might have to have surgery. It was tolerable. Chatted with mischief03 's brother and found him highly entertaining, if perhaps a bit too ready to admit he'd blown air up chickens' arseholes. Swung by Walgreen's on the way home and picked...
It is a small, small world. The prefrosh fencing recruit apparently lived in Minnesota for most of her life, and consequently knew the other Minnesotan member of the team who graduated last year, as well as an epee fencer from my club back home. One of the graduate students in my lab knows mischief03 from Hampshire ultimate. A random woman who was asking about the gel room associated with...
