Exams. Yay.

So, one exam down, four to go. My thoughts on my courses this semester follow: STAT 231: The material is dry, and the lectures are boring. However, the content is not difficult, and some of the stuff I can see being useful in the future. I studied for many a day for the final, and I'm pretty happy with how I did. I couldn't solve the last question which was to derive an estimator for beta in a regression...

Life since April 6

Yes, I exist! April 9, I turned 20. April 22, I bought an Eee PC. April 29-30, I tried to find a decent Uptown sublet and failed. May 1, I moved my stuff into woconnor 's old room. May 10, winged_spirit and I went to Toronto and met up with my dad and his girlfriend and my grandma and aunt and cousins. May 11, he slept on my floor; May 12, I showed him the Kitchener Community Trail...

Sleep On It

I'm so fucking tired. I haven't had a good sleep all week and I've barely been home to do even that. The soft chewy molten core of chocolate logic in me says that I should take this weekend off, clean my room, clean my head, practice guitar, bake bread, watch some He-Man and write some. But if I do that, I'll think about what I could be doing instead and feel really old (for a twenty-fourer). Then...

I have listened to A spring song many times, many more times than I would like to admit. I feel so nostalgic hearing it. It doesn't do me any good, bringing back an undefined feeling, of missing my country, or the grandparents' house with lambs and ducklings that they would put in an old hat and bring near the fireplace in cold springs; the places, the people there, and the realization you'll probably...

Last week I wrote my first real Haskell code. For that my matter, it was my first non-trivial purely functional code. Pattern matching is nice. Typing was less annoying than I was expecting, and I suspect there are parts of Haskell that make it even less annoying. I ended up with a simple (unbalanced) binary tree implementation storing key/value pairs. The bit that took longest (apart from beating...

Tonight was the Open Text Christmas party. After a slowish start, once people I knew started showing up, things started to improve. By the the time that dinner rolled around, a lot of people had gotten a few drinks in, and were starting to relax. I negotiated a trade for our table's bottle of red for a neighbouring table's bottle of white, and over the course of the evening, my boss bought our table...

Classy.

Despite the best efforts of alfedenzo and math_foo , the woman I took to see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead seems to think I'm worth keeping around. So sorry, ladies, The Daniel is off the market. Try to constrain your hysterics.
