My first read of 2009

Title: Moving Targets and Other Tales of Valdemar Editor: Mercedes Lackey Genre: Fantasy, Anthology, Series Pages: 343 First Line: "Herald Elyn refrained from tearing her hair out." Cover: Black, with a shield and a pissed-off white horse in the foreground. The background contains what appear to be carnivorous frogbats, which is interesting, since there are no frogbats of any kind that...

Best Books of 2008

Now that the chaos has died down a bit I am posting my picks for the best reads of 2008. I do not post a complete list of everything that I have read, but you can see all of my 2008 book posts by clicking here . The books in front of the cut have five stars. That means that they changed my life, could change the world, or changed a genre, in my opinion. The books behind the cut have four and a half...

I love November.

I have had a splendid week. I really have. I think that October and November may be my favourite months. Allow me to show you why. Thursday was Thanksgiving. For mrpet and lady_anemone 's traditional Thanksgiving Pie Breakfast (everyone brings a pie, no-one can eat a whole pie, surplus pie are donated to Rosie's Place women's shelter), trouble4hire and I made these pies...

Good use for bad porn?

trouble4hire and I cleaned out the spare room today. You can see the floor and access all the bookshelves, hallelujah! In the course of cleaning, I came across a huge box of surplus porn. This is not the first huge box of surplus porn I've ever received. I got two before, from a friend of a friend who had worked as an editor or something in the porn industry and had all kinds of smut left...

How you know you've had a happy Hallowe'en

You know you had a happy Hallowe'en when you get up the next morning and have to fish a dildo out of a pool of maple syrup. I love Hallowe'en, I love my life, and I love trouble4hire , yes I do. My culture demands that I commemorate special occasions with Jello: Here we see lady_anemone and trouble4hire dressed as Ann Coulter and Stephen Colbert, respectively. "Colbert"...

Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs

This book is a continuation of the novella "Alpha and Omega" found in the anthology On the Prowl . I recommend reading the novella first, for the introduction of the main characters to each other and other important background information. In fact, the book is a little incomplete without that, so I hope that future editions will include the novella. However, although she is mentioned a few times,...
