It is book release week...

For the lovely and effulgent difrancis . If you like urban fantasy, go forth and buy "Bitter Night," the first two chapters of which I've read online and they're faboo. FYI, apparently Borders made a corporate decision not to buy the book, so... if you're in the mood to beat down their doors and have a (polite!) word with management about it, that would be awesome. So, anyway, in honor of...

introduction post

Hi folks. Following the rules, I figured I would introduce myself. LJ Name/Nickname : difrancis   Are you a writer? Yep. I wrote the Path trilogy and the Crosspointe Chronicles as well as some short stuff, and my first full blown UF comes out in October and is called Bitter Night. More on that here , if you're interested. Are you trying to get published? I'm published by Roc and...

Oh, Ben.

Had a productive meeting with my Writing Buddy last night, in which he suggested a conversation between Ben and Chambliss (Alex's butler--"the go-to guy when you want to hide a body," who has an arsenal in Alex's basement. He's mysterious and a little scary). And Ben's opening up to him a bit because, really, Chambliss is the only person he can really talk to about this stuff. He doesn't want Janni...

updatery on a sunday

Completely self-serving notice: B&N has FLESH AND FIRE up for pre-order. http://tinyurl.com/kwyc8l And now, having gotten the morning's writing in, I embark on a fascinating day of laundry, cleaning [I go away but the felines continue to shed], and client e-mails. Also: finish reading difrancis 's THE BLACK SHIP. And I should probably order some groceries, too.... Ah, the excitement.

Aw, Ben.

Yeah, I know I posted a snippet yesterday, but the lovely and effulgent difrancis did Snippet Sunday, and what can I say, I couldn't resist . In other news, I'm probably going to do a post today on why the movie "The Proposal" just didn't work for me, filled with massive spoilers. And dammit, I wanted to like that movie. It was just...badly written. Gah. In other other news, my wordcount...

What the hey...

I've been debating whether or not to join in (rather than just watching others) but it will help as a cattle-prod. January was good. February / March / April = not so good. I'll be working on two projects:  an historical romance set in Georgian London - I paused at chapter four to finish a novella so I need to pick that up again a fairy-tale re-telling Although, if I need a break from those then...

Sigh...

The Google Settlement* makes it necessary for writers to jump through a bunch of hoops on Google's deadlines, whether said writer decides to opt-in, opt-out or Object. It's not like I don't have enough stupid paperwork-like tasks to fill up my hours, or that I might have a book to write. No, of course not. Doesn't every body have extra hours in their day that they're anxious to fill up? And! The...

Monday is made of fail

Well it appears sigh of relief on the Amazon issue was a bit soon-- rankings for some authors have yet to be restored, the talented Nicola Griffith among them (thanks difrancis for letting me know.) Sigh. Also last night, as I was about to log off and head to bed, my PC was hit by a virus/worm/malevolent piece of software written by someone who better get the hell out of the gene pool before...
