A lovely essay on NPR Morning Edition, by Sandip Roy, on being haunted in India. As families break up and children move away, the old houses are being torn down, replaced by boxy apartment buildings and glitzy malls. Ours was torn down, as well. I remember asking my mother if we could at least save the neem tree. We couldn't. Apartments only have room for potted marigolds and money plants. But...
from the lovely deponti : These are supposed to be written by kids at school; I don't know if that's true or not, but I enjoyed them... "One horsepower is the amount of energy it takes to drag a horse 500 feet in one second." "You can listen to thunder after lightning and tell how close you came to getting hit. If you don't hear it, you got hit, so never mind." "Talc is found on rocks...
This post is actually a comment to deponti 's well written piece on the fake ad world that the fake ad world lives in. Read The awful insincerity of advertising... This was so well written that I almost thought maybe you had copy pasted a New York Times column here. No jokes, just last week I had read someone's column wondering why laptop manufacturers only mention the maximum possible...
Copied from deponti If you get an email titled "nude photos of Aishwarya Rai," don't open it. It could contain a harmful virus. If you get an email titled "nude photos of Jayalalitha," don't open it. It could contain nude photos of Jayalalitha.

My LJ account will now be tweet-pollution free going forward. My twitter account will continue to exist but you won't see the daily twitter updates appear on this journal anymore. There are only three reasons for this: 1. Makes my other what-i-want-the-world-to-read-and-comment-on blog posts difficult to navigate to. Too much noise from twitter. Atleast I visit blogs once in a while to 'catch up'...
This is regarding my previous month's post Have you got a symbol for Rs? The Govt. of India wants it! . Apparently they have received a bunch of symbols, and now they want us to select the one we like best. What I liked best was that the R for in hindi र looks a lot like the english R with its left side chopped off;-) Anyway you can go across to Rupee Symbol at the Economic Times to vote for the...
Tribute to deponti , whose photo-series inspire this post. --- LOCATION : One of many cabs in Bangalore. One would imagine that, if the makers of this sticker did not know how to spell a word, they would, at the least, misspell it consistently. --- LOCATION : Windows Vista. Or, "It's not my fault! They created it!" --- LOCATION : A small seaside restaurant in Goa. Didn't get...
The "Hampi Express" was crowded, that on a Thursday night. We couldn't get the tickets in the A/C coach and had to settle down for the last 2 seats in the Sleeper coach , just a few meters from the rest room. It was horrible. Even before that, finding our seats was a big headache. The seats have three different sets of numbers, so the seat no.1 also had a seat no. 82. So it was a total chaos. Added...
