Oh, brilliant, self.

I decided I was going to try watching House , because while it's entirely possible that alecaustin and skzbrust might both like something I found completely worthless, it doesn't seem like the way to bet. So I got the DVDs from the library. I managed half an episode. That half-episode makes me think this may be my sort of thing and is worth my time (I like mysteries that are not...

Books read, early June

Steven Brust, Five Hundred Years After . Reread. I got lured. Well--in all fairness it might be described as mutual luring. In any case, those of you who are going to 4th St. should perhaps be a bit conversationally careful lest alecaustin and I start talking like a pair of Paarfi novels. (It is with surprising ease that I can come up with a fictional pair of Paarfi titles that the two of...

How do you assign jobs in order to make best use of your dwarves' time and resources? What imports do you need to get you through the next year?) I got sort of annoyed last night when one of my dwarfs decided the best way to dig a hole next to an underground channel...

Havemercy, Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett

I liked quite a bit about Havemercy (in particular, the role-play sensitivity training exercises for the Dragon Corps, which was very nicely done), but it also has its problems. Chiefly, plot (but also gender), and my issues with this tie in with an in-progress email I’ve been failing to send to alecaustin about writing fanfic vs writing original fic. It’s probably unfair to make Havemercy...

My kingdoms for a copy editor.

Mostly I do not name the books I quit reading, but I am halfway through this copy of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Volume I , and I can't bear it any more. It's not the book, it's the production of it. It's the Tuttle Classics edition, translated by C. H. Brewitt-Taylor, and I don't know whether they got an incompetent copy editor or whether the author overused the stet stamp to the copy editor's...
