Beach Day Activities
Chapter 02
Asaka glanced at the others; he knew they couldn't see him and Daiki, even though he could see them, and they were already laughing and jokingly arguing about something so they weren't really paying attention anyway. He turned his eyes back to Daiki after taking a quick look at Inoo, feeling his irritation grow. What was Inoo thinking? Making a fuss over something like this, just because he couldn't accept it... Asaka ran his hands over Daiki's waist under the water, pulling Daiki closer to him and forcing the older boy to raise his arms and circle them around Asaka's neck, and leaned in to lock their lips in a rough kiss, deciding to forget about Inoo sitting alone on the beach.
Daiki peddled the water with his feet to try to find something to step on and support himself in the water. Luckily there were a lot of large rocks around the reef area so Daiki managed to found on to stand on pretty fast, the water reaching around his chest when he stood on it. Asaka kissing him that way in the water, both of them would end up drowning if there wasn’t a proper place to support his feet!
“Asaka…” Daiki asked softly when Asaka broke the kiss after a while. “What… what were you and Inoo arguing about?”
Daiki saw Asaka’s eyes narrow at the mentioning of the subject - or perhaps of Inoo’s name - and he pushed Daiki a little back so that he was pinning the smaller boy against the huge rock behind him, and locked their lips in another hard kiss again. A tiny whimper escaped from Daiki’s lips when Asaka pushed his tongue against his, Asaka’s hand sliding down his side to the waistband of his swimming trunks. Asaka was being like that again… being too possessive, and Daiki didn’t like it.
“Asaka… Asaka you’re being scary again!” Daiki said, pushing the boy away, panting slightly as he directed his eyes to the side rather than towards Asaka. That wasn’t completely true, because Asaka wasn’t being scary like what he had been the day before, but it felt like it was going that way. Asaka not saying anything and being rough… “I don’t like it, you know that…”
Asaka looked annoyed, toeing around the stones under the water carefully instead of looking at Daiki. He found a footing on a stone and kept one foot on it, pushing himself up slightly so he could keep himself up without moving his legs to keep from drowning. He didn't know what Daiki wanted him to do or say - he didn't want to talk about Inoo at all. Asaka turned slightly, glancing again at Inoo on the beach, now looking down at his feet while running the towel lightly over his hair with one hand, then turned around to face Daiki, meeting the older boy's eyes with his own dark ones. "What do you want me to say, Daiki? When he's so obvious about it..."
Daiki felt his lips turn into a pout at Asaka’s tone of voice. Why was he being like that… ‘When he’s so obvious about it’… Who was obvious and about what? Daiki had been feeling so excited about the beach trip and even better after kissing with Asaka in their room but now the boy was being all weird again for no apparent reason! Daiki really wanted to know what exactly was going on and what the two boys had been arguing about, but with Asaka being like this Daiki didn’t think he could get the boy to talk about much anything.
“Forget it then…” Daiki said, still pouting as he glanced at Asaka before turning away. “I just go play with the others.” But before Daiki could even step away from the rock he was standing on, he felt a pair of arms wrap around his waist and pull his back against to Asaka’s chest, but this time very gently, as if voicelessly asking Daiki not to go away.
"What do you think about Inoo, Daiki?" Asaka asked softly, feeling Daiki tense just a little. He hadn't thought it through before, but - seeing Daiki about to leave, he wondered if it felt just as bad, or maybe even worse, for Inoo to watch him and Daiki leave. He wondered if it had been him who had been rejected and having to watch Daiki smile at Inoo with the special smile he only smiled when he saw Asaka, having to watch Daiki and Inoo sneak off at any chance and knowing what they were doing, having to listen to Hasshi tease Daiki about Inoo and Daiki's first time together, would he have been as kind as Inoo and try to let Daiki be happy with someone who wasn't him? Somehow, despite the overwhelming guilt he felt for getting on Inoo's nerves without even trying to understand his feelings, he felt an unexplainable relief that it was him Daiki had chosen. He let out a small breath against Daiki's bare skin, waiting for the older boy's answer.
Daiki glanced over his shoulder, trying to see Asaka’s face. What did Asaka mean by that..? And why would Asaka ask something like that when he wasn’t answering to Daiki asking him about the argument just earlier. Daiki was about to ask what Asaka meant by that, but opening his mouth, he remembered Asaka getting angry the previous day. Or more than being angry, being jealous, over Inoo…
“Baka…” Daiki said quietly, even though being annoyed at Asaka acting the way he had been just earlier, he couldn’t help but smile a bit. “Baka, being jealous again…” Daiki leaned his head back, against Asaka’s chest, feeling his own breathing get calmer as Asaka leaned his cheek against Daiki’s wet hair.
"I'm not a baka," Asaka replied softly, his voice uncharacteristically full of a tenderness even Asaka was surprised at hearing in his own voice. But thinking about Inoo, their argument and Daiki's body so close to his, it made him feel just glad to have Daiki in his arms like this.
"I don't want to give you to anyone, no matter who, Daiki. Even if they love you more than I do, even if they deserve you more than I do, even if it's someone like Inoo... I don't want to think of the possibility that you won't be mine..." Asaka said, tightening his arms around Daiki's waist as he spoke. He wasn't good with words, so he didn't want to use them to make his feelings clear to Daiki, but if he had to, he would. "I want to be the one who makes you happy."
Daiki felt his cheeks heating up as Asaka spoke, but this time he wasn’t feeling embarrassed about it. Asaka didn’t normally say things like that out loud, and somehow it made Daiki feel very good inside. Even though Daiki didn’t like Asaka being so jealous all the time, it was just because Asaka didn’t want to lose him…
The boy turned around on Asaka’s arms, meeting Asaka’s eyes with a little smile on his lips. “No, you are a baka…” he said softly, placing a small kiss on Asaka’s lips. “But you’re my baka, ne?”
"I can live with that," Asaka replied, leaning down to kiss Daiki again, this time a longer, sweeter kiss. Even though he was immature, had a short temper, didn't know how to be considerate and wasn't very good with words, knowing Daiki could take all that from him, he wanted to show Daiki everything he was feeling at that moment.
Daiki almost felt like sighing in the kiss, sliding his hands up Asaka’s chest and wrapping his arms around Asaka’s neck to be able to meet his lips better in the kiss. He could take Asaka being troublesome sometimes, as long as in the end the boy would be sweet like this… After the kiss, Daiki trailed one of his hands to the side of Asaka’s face, lightly brushing his thumb over Asaka’s lower lip. “Ne, just don’t go fighting with Inoo-chan like that…” he said softly, moving the other hand on the side of Asaka’s face too. “I don’t know who started it or what it was about either, because you’re not telling anything, but… don’t argue like that. We came to the beach to have fun after all.”
Asaka looked to the side a little awkwardly. He wanted to promise Daiki he wouldn't fight with Inoo, but he knew he wouldn't be able to keep that promise if Inoo got angry again and he didn't want to break any promise he had with Daiki! He decided to not reply, raising his hands to Daiki's on his face and moving them slightly to lean in and press his lips against Daiki's, distracting him from the fact that Asaka hadn't answered to what he had said.
Daiki made a small humming noise in the kiss, wrapping his arms back around the taller boy’s shoulders. He really hoped Asaka and Inoo wouldn’t be arguing like that, no matter what the reason for the earlier was. He had been waiting the getting to the beach together for so long, he didn’t want something like that spoiling it. “Ne, should we go back to the others?” Daiki asked, giving a small peck on Asaka’s lips after the long kiss ended.
"We should, but I don't want to," Asaka replied, leaning in to press a kiss against Daiki's lips before sliding his feet away from the stone he was standing on back into the water, pulling Daiki with him. He laughed lightly when Daiki let out a small sound of surprise before letting of his hold around Asaka's neck to be able to swim properly, since he had also lost his footing. "Maa~ I guess we should go after all..."
Daiki giggled slightly and leaned closer to Asaka to place a small kiss on his cheek. He then swam near the big rocks, kicking against the side of the rock to get some extra speed to the start of his swimming towards the other guys, still playing with the beach ball in the shallow waters. It didn’t take too long before Asaka caught up to him of course, Asaka’s arms and legs were longer than his after all.
"You're back," Fukka said, smiling at Daiki and Asaka who had swam back to them. He threw the beach ball he was holding at Daiki when the older boy stopped across from him, giggling as it hit against Daiki's head and fell to the water, splashing the smaller boy lightly with the water.
“Oi, give a warning first”, Daiki laughed, reaching for the beach ball to throw it towards Kamei who was near Fukka. Daiki couldn’t help but glance at the beach, seeing Inoo still sitting in the same chair where he had been before Asaka had dragged him away.
Hasshi noticed the concerned look on Daiki’s face, following it to Inoo. “Ah, I’ll go see if Inoo-chan wants to come play too”, Hasshi said before Daiki might do something like go talk to Inoo himself, possibly spoiling the just calmed down atmosphere. He gave a little smile at Takaki before heading towards the shore.
“Inoo-chan~” Hasshi said in a sweet voice, peeking under the towel Inoo was still holding to cover his face. “Inoo-chan, won’t you come play with us? I… I’m sorry you heard me teasing Dai-chan like that, I really don’t even know what happened, so don’t worry about it, okay? Dai-chan is worried about you, so come play with us, ne?”
"Taku-chan, don't~!" Fukka said, laughing as he swam away from Kamei, who was aiming the beach ball at him with a big, not-so-innocent smile. He stopped swimming, turning to face Kamei, who suddenly turned and threw the ball right at Takaki's face. Fukka took the chance to look over at the shore quickly, watching Hasshi and Inoo talking, before looking back at Takaki and laughing at the older boy's surprise at being hit so suddenly with the ball.
Inoo let out a small sigh, pulling the towel back so it was covering only his hair, and looked up at Hasshi. The younger boy did seem sorry, but it wasn't his fault... Inoo looked over Hasshi's shoulder at the others in the water, feeling a surge of helplessness come over him as he looked at Daiki laughing with Asaka beside him, before looking back at Hasshi with a small smile. "I'd just bring the mood down if I went. Tell him not to worry."
Hasshi pouted slightly as he looked at Inoo. “I think Dai-chan will worry no matter what I say if you don’t come…” the boy said softly, giving a little sad smile at Inoo before turning to head back in the water. “I just try convincing him you’re tired. But you know Inoo-chan, you’re the one who arranged the whole trip so that we could have fun together. It’s not all of us having fun together if you’re not there too.”
“Are, Inoo-chan didn’t come?” Daiki asked when Hasshi came back to the water, snatching the beach ball from the air when Asaka had been aiming it at Kamei.
“Nn, Inoo-chan feels a bit tired, so he’s resting for now”, Daiki said, throwing the ball at Daiki.
“Hm, but if Inoo-chan is feeling tired, you don’t think he got sunstroke do you?” Daiki asked a bit worried, passing the ball at Fukka, not really paying attention to it as he glanced towards Inoo again before looking back at Hasshi.
Hasshi almost wanted to groan. He knew it! Daiki would worry no matter what he said! “It’s not a sunstroke, and Inoo-chan has a towel over his head anyway and he’s near the shadow. You can check on him later when we get out of the water. I at least want to get some ice cream soon~”
Asaka frowned, watching Daiki keep looking back towards Inoo on the shore. He knew he probably didn't have anything to worry about, but what was the big deal that Daiki had to keep worrying over Inoo? If the older boy didn't want to come join them, it wasn't Daiki's fault, so there was no need to worry. Being so busy in watching Daiki, Asaka didn't notice the ball thrown towards him, which hit him in the face just as he turned to see where the ball was.
The ball dropped to the water a little in front of Asaka. Asaka glared at Kamei, who had thrown it, and was looking somewhere between being ready to flee further into the sea to escape Asaka's wrath and a little amused. "Warn me at least before you're throwing!"
"But he did..." Fukka murmured softly, pushing himself a little forward to take the ball and hold it out to Asaka with a tiny smile. Asaka turned his eyes to meet Fukka's, reaching out and taking the ball but not saying anything to Kamei. "Hai! Asaka's turn to throw. Sorry about Taku-chan's mistake!"
Even though Daiki was still worrying over Inoo, no matter what Hasshi said, he couldn’t help but laugh watching the other boys. Asaka threw the ball back towards Kamei, but too hard and too high so it went over Kamei’s head, the boy not being able to catch it. Kamei of course made an annoyed face at that, having to swim after the ball before it’d get too far. The water was pretty calm right then, but a beach ball would still disappear quickly.
“Uwah! What was that!?” Takaki suddenly shouted in a scared voice when Kamei was coming back with the ball, almost jumping up from the water.
“Eh, what?” Hasshi asked, giving a questioning look at Takaki who was eyeing the water surface around him.
“Something just touched my leg…” Takaki said, his voice still quite shocked.
Hasshi frowned before holding his breath and diving under the surface to see if there was anything there. There was nothing there at the moment at least. “Maa, I don’t see anything”, Hasshi said, pushing the wet hair from his face when he came back. “It was probably just some fish then…”
“’Just’ a fish then?” Takaki asked, his face very hilariously horrified.
Hassh wasn’t exactly sure if he wanted to laugh at the boy’s expression or punch him for being so easily scared. So he ended up doing both. “Well yeah, it’s a sea after all! There’s supposed to be more than a few fish there.”
All the others were smirking and giggling at easily scared Takaki too. “We could go play beach volleyball?” Daiki suggested. Takaki looking down at his feet where he was standing all the time now might make it a bit difficult for him to see the ball when it was about to hit his head after all.
"That'd be fun too!" Kamei said, spinning the ball over the water while he looked around at the others. Playing catch in the water was fun, but spending too long in the water would be boring, so beach volleyball was perfect. Not waiting for the others to decide what to do, he pushed the ball in front of him as he began swimming back to shore.
"Taku-chan, we didn't even decide yet whether we want to play!" Fukka called after Kamei, giggling lightly before looking back at Takaki. "Though, it's not like we can play very well with Takaki being so bibiri..."
“I’m not bibiri!” Takaki insisted, but he wasn’t being too believable as he kept glancing at the water every other second. “I just think the beach volleyball sounds like a good idea.”
“Yeah, right…” Hasshi giggled, giving Takaki a little push so that the boy almost lost his balance, trying to keep his feet touching the ground under water as much as possible.
"Sure you aren't," Fukka replied, laughing as Hasshi pushed the older boy. He pushed himself off and began swimming back to shore to follow Kamei, splashing a little water on Takaki as he passed the older boy, laughing.
"Hm~" Asaka murmured in annoyance, lowering himself into the water as he watched Fukka follow Kamei before looking back at the others. He didn't really want to go back to the shore that much... "Beach volleyball it is, then..."
“There’s a net there we can use”, Hasshi said, pointing a little distance down the beach shore. Because there were less people around where they were now, no one was using the net right then. “Hm, but after playing a little while, I wanna go buy some ice cream then…”
“I go ask if Inoo-chan wants to come play too, if he’s nor feeling too tired anymore”, Daiki said, heading towards the shade where they had left their things. Hasshi felt an irresistible urge to roll his eyes when Asaka’s face darkened at Daiki going to Inoo, but at least Asaka still followed after the rest of them, not saying anything.
“Inoo-chan”, Daiki called before stopping next to the chair, leaning over Inoo who was now laying on the beach chair, making small drops of water from his hair fall on Inoo. “We’re gonna play beach volleyball, wanna come play with us?”
"E-eh!? Dai-chan?" Inoo said softly in surprise, opening his eyes when he heard Daiki's voice and felt the cold drops of water on his face. Daiki was leaning right over him, so close that Inoo could feel himself slowly flush. It would be so easy to pull Daiki down into a kiss... Inoo quickly pushed himself up so he was sitting up, facing Daiki as best as he could without facing the younger boy's eyes. He didn't really think he was up to playing, but he didn't want to disappoint Daiki either, so he didn't know how to reply. "Beach volleyball? Mm..."
“Or are you still feeling tired?” Daiki asked, looking a bit worried now. “Hasshi said you were feeling tired, you sure you didn’t get sunstroke then? Maybe we should get you back indoors if you‘re feeling like that…”
"Ah, no, it's not sunstroke," Inoo said, waving his hands frantically. Hasshi was right, staying on shore and not playing with them had only made Daiki worry even more... without even noticing, Inoo's lips turned into a smile and he met Daiki's eyes for a long moment before shaking his head. "I guess maybe I can play a little. That's the point of this entire trip... to have fun, right."
Daiki’s lips curled into a smile when Inoo said that. “That’s good! It’s not as much fun if we’re not all playing after all!” Daiki took a hold of Inoo’s hand, tugging it a little to get Inoo to get up from the chair and follow him to the others.
Inoo didn't reply, feeling the smile disappear from his face as soon as Daiki's hand took hold of his. He quickly raised his hand to pull the towel away and drop it on the beach chair before following after Daiki, the younger boy still holding his hand. What was he doing...? Hoping for this kind of chance, waiting for it, wanting to try and take Daiki for himself, it wasn't going to do him any good. Inoo looked down at their hands, then looked back up as they reached the other boys and Daiki let go of his hand to go to Asaka's side.
It wasn't going to do him any good, after all, he thought as he smiled as best as he could at the others, trying to pretend it didn't matter. He'd have fun and forget about it... he looked around at all of them gathered on one side, Kamei holding the ball, and looked at Kamei while trying not to focus on Asaka putting his hand almost possessively on Daiki's lower back. "How are we going to divide the teams?"
“Should we have three versus three teams and one as the referee, or just have uneven teams?” Takaki asked, snatching the ball from Kamei to bounce it with his feet. “If we have a referee we could change after every game who’s counting the points. But if we don’t want to keep score just uneven would be good too.”
"I want score being kept!" Asaka said immediately, raising his hand. He looked quite serious as he watched Kamei and Takaki fight over the ball, frowning slightly. "It's no fun if we're just playing without score. There's no point!"
"Who'll be referee then?" Kamei asked, stealing the ball away from Takaki and sticking his tongue out at the older boy, who immediately snatched it back right out of Kamei's hands. They returned to fighting over it, making Asaka frown even more. "We'll decide by jankenpon! You two, stop fighting over the ball!"
“But we could just play for fun too, without keeping a score”, Daiki pondered, giving an amused smile at Kamei and Takaki, who had stopped fighting over the ball after Asaka shouted at them, but continued only few seconds later again. “If no one wants to be the referee it’s unfair to have someone do that.”
“Maa, it’s okay if we keep changing who the referee is”, Hasshi said, waving his hand dismissively.
“Hm, but if we keep changing like that, then the score doesn’t really matter either, because we’d get switched to different sides anyway..?” Daiki asked, seeming a bit thoughtful.
Hasshi opened his mouth, but he had to stop to think of it too. “Ah, I think you’re right there, the score wouldn’t make any difference when we end up playing different sides…”
"I want score anyway! I won't be referee. That way, my team will be the winning one," Asaka said very confidently, raising his hand to block the sun and looking around at the others. There was a short silence before Kamei looked down at the ball in his hands, then at Takaki, who looked back at him for a few seconds before stealing the ball. Kamei quickly stole it back, raising it up and turning slightly to hide his amused grin.
"Maa, whichever way we play is fine, let's just play," Inoo said softly, smiling at everyone. He put his hands on his hips and pressed his lips together a little. "Jaa, let's play janken to see who the first referee will be. Everyone okay with Asaka not wanting to be referee?"
“Mou, but it’s not fair if Asaka is the only one not being a referee…” Hasshi said, pouting. After all, all of them wanted to play just as much.
“Yeah, Asaka, don’t be unfaaaaiiiir~” Daiki said, also pouting slightly, and poked Asaka on the side. “Would it be better to just have the uneven teams then? We can keep score on our own too after all. Besides, we can be on the same team all the time that way!” Daiki added, giving a little smile at Asaka. “Would that be okay? If you, me and Inoo-chan are one team, and the rest make the other team? I don’t mind having one less player at least…”
"I want Taku-chan with us instead of Inoo-chan, then! He plays better!" Asaka exclaimed, crossing his arms. It wasn't really true; Kamei and Inoo were both around the same level, but Asaka really didn't want to have Inoo on the same team as him and Daiki. He looked over at Kamei before looking back at Inoo, then at Daiki, as if waiting for someone to protest.
Kamei shrugged, watching Asaka a little apprehensively. "I don't mind whichever team, but it's better like this, since we balance each other's abilities better. Right, everyone?"
“But I want Inoo-chan to be in our team…” Daiki pouted, meeting with Asaka’s eyes. What was the boy being so cranky about again? There was no difference in Inoo’s and Kamei’s playing skills. First being childish and saying he wouldn’t want to be a referee even though he wanted someone to count the points, and now not being happy with the teams Daiki suggested. Even Daiki was starting to get annoyed by the way Asaka was acting.
Asaka met Daiki's eyes and felt his frustration grow. Why did Daiki want Inoo on their team so bad!? He knew it was him acting out of jealousy that he didn't want Inoo on their team, but why couldn't Daiki understand that? With the way everyone was waiting for him to say something and how Daiki was looking at him, he knew it was inevitable that he had to accept Inoo being on their team.
Asaka turned away quickly, forcing himself to keep his arms at his sides and not cross them. "Fine, fine, we'll play with Inoo-chan."
“Yay, so it’s the three of us against the four of you then!” Daiki said with a smile, looking at Hasshi and the others. “Hm, although I still think we don’t need to keep score but I guess it doesn’t matter.”
“Should we have some kind of bet since we’re keeping score then?” Hasshi asked, his competitiveness raising its head. “Like, the loser team has to buy ice creams for the winning team?”
"You're on!" Asaka exclaimed, taking a few quick steps closer to the net, where Hasshi, Takaki, Kamei and Fukka were standing on the other side of. He smirked at Hasshi, who was giving him the same competitive glare, before taking a step back. "My favorite ice cream is vanilla, Hasshi."
Hasshi stuck his tongue out at Asaka. The boy was being way too confident, especially when Hasshi’s team had more members too! Hasshi took the ball from Kamei, who had now managed to keep it away from Takaki, heading a little distance away from the net. “Jaa, let’s start then!”
Daiki suppressed a small sigh. Weren’t they supposed to have fun instead of getting so competitive..? On the other hand, a competition could be fun too, as long as it wasn’t getting too serious.
"When I finally got it from Takaki..." Kamei whined jokingly, walking over a little to the side where Fukka was standing to leave Takaki and Hasshi on the other. Fukka smiled at him, shrugging and pointing to the front; Kamei stuck his tongue out at the younger boy and turned around to face the net and the other team.
“You guys ready?” Hasshi asked, lifting the ball on one hand over his head. Asaka and Inoo moved so that Asaka was on the right side of Daiki, while Inoo was on the left. Once the boys were on their positions, Hasshi throw the ball in the air and hit it with his other hand, sending the ball flying over the net towards the right side where Asaka was.
Asaka pressed his lips in concentration, jumping up to hit the ball back towards Hasshi. He didn't know whether Hasshi had intended to aim the ball towards him, but he could play the same game Hasshi was playing for sure.
Hasshi just smirked slightly at Asaka, before directing the next hit towards Inoo on the other side. Inoo returned the ball easily, and on Hasshi’s team’s side Fukka hit it to the other side, and it got returned by Daiki. The game continued for over a minute without neither sides missing it. Even though the boys had decided to count the points, and bet on it too, they still wanted to have fun most of all so none of them were hitting the ball to a difficult place for the other team. Even Asaka had seemed to forget about sulking about having to be in the same team with Inoo.
"A-ah!" Inoo exclaimed, stumbling as he tried to hit the ball and missed. It dropped to the sand and rolled a little, Inoo dropping himself on his stomach beside it. The other team stared for a second before they all began cheering, turning to high-five each other. Inoo kept his face pressed against his forearms, his voice muffled as he apologized. "I'm sorry!"
Asaka was looking at Inoo in a way that made it clear he was barely keeping himself from starting a long, harsh lecture on how much Inoo sucked, but he took a few steps towards the older boy and leaned down to pick up the ball. He turned towards the other team with a scowl, raising the ball a little. "Don't get too excited! We've just started, you know."
“Don’t mind, Inoo-chan”, Daiki said with a smile, offering his hand to the older boy to pull him back up. Daiki was the shortest of all the boys, so he knew he had the biggest disadvantage in a game like this, because height was more than useful in it. Not that Daiki minded that much what the result of the game would be, but Asaka and Hasshi seemed to think it mattered.
"Sankyuu," Inoo said gratefully as he took hold of Daiki's hand, glancing at Asaka, who gave him a quick, annoyed glance before looking back at the other side to meet Hasshi's eyes. Inoo returned to his place just as Asaka threw the ball up and jumped after it, hitting it as strong as he could in Hasshi's direction.
Maybe it wasn’t a good idea after all, having Inoo and Daiki on the same side, Hasshi thought as he just barely reached to return the ball Asaka hit towards him. If Daiki did something like that again too many times, Asaka might just hit the ball so hard it’d break.
Asaka watched the ball coming and jumped up, hitting it back, but this time the ball headed towards Kamei, who had been expecting it to go back towards Hasshi and jumped to hit it right when it went over him - Fukka ran to try and hit it before it reached the ground, but his fingers barely brushed against the ball as it fell to the ground. Kamei let out a small groan as Fukka made a face at him for missing it, but went to pick up the ball, not wanting to look at Asaka and see how triumphant the younger boy looked.
Asaka smirked, crossing his arms. "See? I told you it was just the beginning."
“At least try to concentrate!” Hasshi almost growled at Kamei, crossing his arms over his chest. Maybe he should have switched Kamei to Inoo after all… “So? It’s one to one now so we’re even.”
Fukka had thrown the ball in the air and hit it to the other side around the center. Daiki reached to hit it but he couldn’t reach it and the ball slipped less than an inch from his fingers. However, seemed that Inoo had managed to anticipate that and was already a little behind Daiki, hitting the ball back after Daiki couldn’t reach it. The ball hit the ground on the other side, after having slipped through Takaki’s fingers.
“The second point!” Daiki said happily, turning around to double high five with Inoo. “Nice safe~”
Inoo high-fived Daiki back, ignoring the uneasiness in his stomach, before turning to grin at the other team; Hasshi was annoyed at Inoo's team getting ahead of them and glaring at Takaki, Takaki was annoyed both by his miss and the way Hasshi was looking at him scornfully, Kamei was miffed at how Hasshi had gotten angry at him for missing the ball and Fukka was watching the rest of his team worriedly, looking like he was wondering exactly when their innocent game had changed into a competition. It was only over ice cream, so what was the big deal...?
"Let's play! Come on, losers, what are you waiting for?" Asaka taunted, his pride in his team scoring another point dampened by Daiki's high-five with Inoo.
“You shush”, Hasshi mumbled at Asaka, picking up the ball from the ground. He threw it in the air, giving a sharp hit on the ball. It flew fast towards the space between Asaka and Daiki, but before either of the boys could reach it, it had already hit the ground, leaving the two boys who had jumped after it bump into each other instead.
“Hm, who’s the loser now…” Hasshi mumbled, but so quietly Asaka probably wouldn’t hear it. Besides, the boy was being too distracted trying to get his head from spinning after falling on the ground after colliding with Daiki just now.
"Dai-chan! Asaka! Are you okay?" Inoo asked a little worriedly as he ran up to the pair, leaning down to pick up the ball and look between them. He took a tiny step back when Asaka looked up with a half-glare, as if suspicious of his intentions, but still quite aware that Inoo was naturally prone to being an 'older brother' like that. Inoo frowned as he realized he had said both of them, looking down at the ball before looking over at Daiki and trying to avoid Asaka's eyes. "Come on, both of you! Let's not let them win, we don't want that after all."
"Are they okay?" Fukka called, taking a few steps forward but stopping when Kamei gave him a sour glance. He sighed a little and stood on his tiptoes to try and get a closer look at Asaka on the sand and Daiki blinking while trying to get his head clear again.
“I’m fine at least…” Daiki mumbled, rubbing his head, a little annoyed at himself for being too concentrated looking towards the ball to notice he was about to crash with Asaka. He turned to look at Asaka who was still sitting on the ground, his annoyance replaced with a slight worry. “Asaka, you okay?”
"I'm okay..." Asaka mumbled, pushing himself off the ground quickly, but fell back down on the sand as soon as he tried to stand properly. He hadn't hit Daiki hard, but the mixture of the bright sun and falling back after colliding with Daiki had been enough to make him fall back down to the soft sand. He blinked a few times and raised his eyes to look at Daiki, moving his hand over his eyes to block the sun. "...or not."
Daiki kneeled down next to Asaka, now genuinely worried when Asaka fell back down. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling dizzy? Maybe you should sit down for a while, or we should get you something to drink or…”
Hasshi resisted the urge to roll his eyes at Daiki acting like some kind of mother hen but he was also a bit worried for Asaka almost collapsing down like that. It was a really hot day after all, they should be careful if one of them started feeling bad.
"Ah, no, it's just ... the sun," Asaka mumbled as he pushed himself back up and managed to stand up properly this time. He smiled a little at Daiki before frowning as he lowered his hand from over his eyes, looking over at their things as if looking for something. "I thought I brought my cap, but looks like I left it in the room when I actually need it..."
“Should I get the cap for you?” Daiki offered, lifting himself back from the ground now when Asaka already managed to get up too. “If you’re not feeling too good, maybe it’s better you rest for a while?”
"It's okay, you guys keep playing while I go get it," Asaka said, waving his hand lightly to dismiss Daiki's worry. He liked Daiki worrying over him, but he didn't want to make trouble for them like that. He gave a quick glance at Hasshi before looking back at Daiki. "Win us some points while I'm going."
"That's a little unfair, though, 4 against 2," Fukka said softly as he watched Asaka turn and begin to walk away a little quickly, as if trying to prove to Daiki he was okay. He looked over at Daiki and Inoo as they turned back around to look at the others, raising his hand to block the sun from his eyes. "Are you two okay with only two players? Maybe I could play with you guys until Asaka comes back, to be fair."
“But if you score points to them it just hurts our team!” Hasshi said, looking a little more amused than annoyed. It was only ice cream, so it’s not like it would really matter, but the idea of Fukka scoring against himself was a bit… weird.
“Or we could play without counting the points until Asaka comes back?” Daiki suggested, brushing the sand from his hands. “Then it wouldn’t matter even if Fukka came to play on our side, and we’d have even teams.”
“I think that sounds good”, Takaki said, looking at Hasshi who gave a small nod. “Asaka was the one who wanted to count the points the most, so we can very well not count them while he’s away. Plus, that way he can’t accuse anyone if he doesn’t like the scores when he comes back”, Takaki added with a little laughter.
"It's not fair, though, because we'll definitely be scoring," Fukka said with a small pout. It would be weird if he scored against his own team, but Daiki's suggestion seemed like it would work. "Let's go with Dai-chan's suggestion, then?"
"I'm okay with that too," Inoo said, hugging the ball to his chest before moving it away and spinning it in his hands. He looked over at Fukka with a smile. "Ne, Fukka, are you still coming to play for us?"
Fukka paused for a second, pressing his lips together a little nervously before nodding as he began walking towards the other side. Kamei watched him with a slightly annoyed expression before moving to the center behind Hasshi and Takaki, who had taken opposite sides. If they were playing without counting points, Fukka should just stay with them, then! Kamei scowled, keeping his eyes focused on the three on the other side of the net.
“Okay, so no counting scores until Asaka is back!” Hasshi said, giving a small nod at Inoo who was preparing to throw the ball again. Fukka had taken Asaka’s place on Daiki’s right side, so now that they were all ready to continue Inoo threw the ball in the air, hitting it to the other side towards Takaki. The oldest boy hit the ball a little over his head, making it fly to the other side over the net towards Fukka, who easily returned it again.
Fukka watched Takaki return it, but between Daiki and him. He quickly ran forward and jumped, hitting it towards Kamei. The older boy returned it smoothly to Daiki, who hit it back; the game continued with the teams returning the ball to each other successfully until Kamei hit the ball hard in between Daiki and Inoo.
Fukka took a few steps, wondering if he should run, but saw Daiki moving backwards quickly while Inoo was running forward, both of them keeping their eyes on the ball. They'd collide right into each other like that! Fukka took a couple of steps forward, raising his hands to cup them around his mouth. "Dai-chan, Inoo-chan, abunai!!"
Of course Daiki and Inoo didn’t hear the warning in time, and in less than a second the two boys crashed against each other, falling on the golden sand in a bundle of entangled limbs while the ball hit the ground pretty close to them, rolling a small distance on the sand before stopping.
“Are you two okay!?” Hasshi shouted, hurrying to the net. That crash had looked even worse than the crashing of Daiki and Asaka earlier. Daiki was being way too accident prone…
"Itai," Inoo mumbled, feeling his head spinning. He tried blinking away the bright whiteness which was making his vision hazy, but it was hard with the sunlight shining over him. He closed his eyes again, then opened them quickly as he finally acknowledged the weight over him. After staring for a long moment at Daiki's dark hair, he remembered why he was on the ground again. "D...Dai-chan?"
"Inoo-chan! Dai-chan! Are you guys okay!?" Fukka asked worriedly, running over to them. Inoo almost let out a sigh, thankful of Fukka's shadow over them blocking the sunlight. "Inoo-chan? Dai-chan!?"
“Ah, that hurt…” Daiki whined in a small voice, moving both of his hands to press against his head. He only then seemed to notice he was laying on top of Inoo, having landed on the boy when they had crashed against each other earlier. He rolled off the boy, but remained laying on the ground next to Inoo now, laying on his side so that he could see Inoo’s face. “Inoo-chan, you okay?” Daiki asked. His own head was still feeling a bit woozy.
"My head just hurts a little," Inoo replied, slowly pushing himself up, but when he had pushed himself up a little, he decided laying down would be better when his head started aching again. He dropped himself lightly back on the sand, meeting Fukka's eyes for a bit then looking over at Daiki. "How about you, Dai-chan?"
Fukka looked up at the others and nodded with a little smile. It didn't seem like anything serious had happened to Daiki and Inoo; it looked like they were a little disoriented, but that was to be expected with them running into each other like that.
“Nn, I’m fine…” Daiki said with a nod, but lifted one of his hands to press on his head again when it hurt as he nodded that way. His head was spinning a little bit, so he didn’t want to lift it up too much. He rested on hand under his head, still looking at Inoo, very small distance away from him on the ground. “My head is just spinning a little…” Daiki explained, trying to focus his eyes on Inoo’s face. “Aah, that was my second crash now… Maybe I should have been the referee after all”, Daiki added in a little laugh.
"If we knew you were so accident prone, we would've forced you to be referee for your own good," Fukka said softly, laughing as he squatted down to take a closer look at the two. "Let's just take a break until Asaka comes back. It's not like you two will be able to play properly now..."
"Nnn," Inoo murmured in response, his eyes locked with Daiki's. Even though the way they had ended up so close was because of them crashing into each other, Inoo thought maybe he could put up with the slight headache anyway...
“Hm, having a little break would be good”, Hasshi said, walking under the net to go retrieve the beach ball from where it had rolled off to. “If Dai-chan crashes with anyone again, he’s not gonna be able to get up from the ground again.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Daiki asked annoyed, pushing himself up from the ground but a sharp flash of pain went through his head so he leaned back down, his head leaning against Inoo’s stomach as he almost curled up into a small ball against him. “Aah, I guess you have a point there…” Daiki mumbled to Hasshi. “My head hurts enough now already.”
Inoo closed his eyes, blocking them against the rays of sunlight making his head pound even more. Daiki leaning against him was a little uncomfortable, but Inoo didn't care as long as Daiki stayed this close to him. He wondered whether Asaka would come back and see them like this, but he pressed his eyes shut harder, willing the thoughts that he didn't care and it'd be better if Asaka did see to go away.
“Dai-chan, you wanna try getting up?” Hasshi asked, leaning to look at the boy’s face and holding the beach ball against his stomach.
“Nn…” Daiki shook his head against Inoo’s stomach, but only a few times because it hurt his head to move it more than that. “If I get up my head with hurt more…”
“But maybe you should go sit in the shade for a bit?” Hasshi asked again, but Daiki just said no again. Actually, more than worrying over Daiki’s head, because Daiki would say if it hurt enough for the others to worry over it, Hasshi was a bit cautious if Asaka would see how Daiki was leaning onto Inoo. Even though Daiki wasn’t thinking it that way, Asaka would definitely get just another reason to get jealous and angry if he saw that. “Inoo-chan, you wanna go sit in the shade? If the bright sun is making it feel worse…”
"I think we should, Dai-chan," Inoo said, opening his eyes but keeping his hand over them. He shifted to push himself up a little, making Daiki move off him to sit up slightly. Even though he could still hear the cocky little voice in his head telling him it would be revenge against Asaka, he couldn't bring himself to do it and make a potential problem between Daiki and Asaka too. "It's better than sitting in the sun, which is really making my head hurt..."
“But my head hurts when I get up…” Daiki whined, pouting his lips although he sat up too. But it was true, the bright sun wasn’t making his head feel any better, so maybe sitting a little while in the shade might be better. Inoo was already getting up, so Daiki decided he shouldn’t stay sitting on the ground either then. “Inoo-chan, help me up?” Daiki asked, a tiny pout still on his lips, reaching one arm towards Inoo.
"Hai," Inoo mumbled, holding out his hand to take hold of Daiki's. Even though he was helping Daiki up, his eyes were on Daiki's feet rather than meeting Daiki's eyes. He looked up for a brief moment before returning his gaze back to Daiki's feet, looking almost flustered. "Jaa..."
“Nnn, I said my head will hurt if I get up…” Daiki whined quietly, giving an accusing look towards Hasshi, and leaned his forehead against taller Inoo’s shoulder, still holding onto the boy’s hand.
“You just like to complain”, Hasshi said in a little laugh, although he glanced a bit worried towards the direction from where Asaka would likely soon come back If Hasshi had thought Daiki doing ‘that’ with Asaka for the first time had done anything to got rid off his innocence or cluelessness, Hasshi was badly mistaken. “Just come sit in the shade for a while and you feel better?” Hasshi said with a smile, taking a hold of Daiki’s wrist, tugging the boy with him and untangling him from Inoo at the same time.
Inoo stood completely still for a moment, watching Hasshi tug Daiki away while glancing in the direction of the hotel. He knew Hasshi was doing this to make sure Asaka wouldn't come while they were like that, but it still hurt to feel Daiki's hand pulled away from him. He let his hand drop to his side as he slowly followed Hasshi and Daiki to the shade, sitting down on the beach towel they had spread to let Daiki sit on the beach chair.
Daiki pulled his towel to cover his face completely, leaning down on the chair on his back. “Nn, my head is starting to feel better already…” Daiki said, a little smile in his voice which the other boys could hear even through the towel. The boy stretched his arms over his head, taking a more relaxed position on the chair.
Hasshi sat on the edge of the other chair near the small table. “Ne, I wanna go get ice cream already!” the boy whined, looking up at Takaki when the boy placed his hand over his left shoulder. “I know we made the bet, but I want the ice cream now…”
“Me too!” Daiki said from under the towel, raising one of his hands. “My head hurts, so it’s not like we can continue the play anytime too soon, and I really want ice cream…” Daiki lifted the towel from his face, glancing at Inoo. “Ne, Inoo-chan’s head hurts too, right?”
"A little," Inoo mumbled, still keeping his eyes away from Daiki's. He could almost imagine Asaka coming back to Daiki fussing over him or being well, cluelessly Daiki, and he didn't know if he could really deal with the anger that would well up for sure if they ended up arguing. He looked up at Kamei and Fukka, who were standing in front of them, then at Takaki and Hasshi, then back at Kamei and Fukka. "I guess we can have ice cream now."
"Maa, we were going to win anyway, so your team should treat us," Kamei said, pretending to look arrogant. He looked over to the side as he saw Asaka heading back, but still a little far off, and turned to look back at the others with a seemingly normal expression. "Or paying for ourselves seems more fair, yeah, with you guys crashing like that..."
“We would have won…” Daiki mumbled, having the towel back over his face as he said that. Even though Daiki had been the least interested in counting the points, he still had enough pride to say that.
Hasshi turned to look at Asaka when the boy walked up to them, confused as to why the others had stopped playing. “Inoo-chan and Dai-chan crashed onto each other”, Hasshi explained. “Since they were feeling quite woozy we decided to take a little break.”
"What? Are you okay!?" Asaka exclaimed, pushing his cap up a little as he looked between Inoo, who was staring down at the sand, and Daiki, looking a little worried at the older boy who still had the towel covering his face. "Not only me, but Inoo too?"
"They were playing pretty seriously naa~" Kamei said, crossing his arms. He smothered a laugh at remembering how they had collided. "They were both going for the ball and before we knew it, they had crashed..."
Daiki lifted the towel from his face to meet with Asaka’s worrying eyes. “Nn, just hurt my head a bit…” Daiki said. “Ne, Asaka… Could we get the ice cream already?” Daiki asked, taking the towel from his head and lifting himself to sit on the chair, giving Asaka the cutest smile he could possibly do. “I reeeeaaally wanna eat ice cream, and it’s gonna take a while before we would finish playing and see who wins. Besides, Inoo-chan and I can’t play for a little while now at least.”
"But I wanted to play..." Asaka said, almost whining a little. He looked back and forth between Inoo and Daiki, as if considering whether he should tell them to just get up and play or agree to buying the ice cream, then let out a sigh as he pulled his cap a little down, pouting slightly. "Fine, ice cream, whatever."
“Yay!” Daiki said happily, almost bouncing up from the chair but when he moved so fast it made his head hurt a little again, so he had to sit back down, lightly pressing his palm over his forehead. “Besides, we can always continue playing later, just without the bet”, Daiki then added when his head felt a little better. “We couldn’t play good enough to win now anyway.”
“Jaa, I think I wanna get a little parfait…” Hasshi mused, mostly to himself as he looked for his wallet from their stuff. “Dai-chan, you want one too? They have the kinds you can choose yourself what you want in them! Like what ice cream, and if you want cream or chocolate syrup or something like that.”
Hearing Hasshi explain about the parfaits, Daiki couldn’t help but give a small glance at Asaka’s direction, and he could feel his own face heating up. They had made parfaits at Asaka’s house the previous night, but most of those had been left uneaten, as the pair had ended up doing something totally different than eating those… Daiki shook his head slightly, trying to rid his head of those thoughts and the blush from his cheeks and looked up to Hasshi with a bright smile. “Yeah, I wanna try those parfaits too then!”
"Parfaits sound good," Asaka said, almost purring, noticing Daiki's glance and how the older boy was trying to hide his embarrassment. He threw a quick glance at Inoo before looking back at Daiki, his lips curving into a smirk. "Ne, Dai-chan."
"I think I'll wait here while you guys go," Inoo said, turning slightly to search through their things and pulled out his wallet to take out money for an ice cream cone. He looked up at the others as he stuffed his wallet back, trying to avoid looking at Asaka as subtly as he could. "Can someone get me a vanilla cone?"
"Eh? You should come with us, Inoo-chan!" Kamei said, taking his wallet before moving a little away to let the others search for their wallets too. He squatted down in front of Inoo, frowning a little. "There might be a lot of different flavors you want to try other than vanilla, you know."
“Yeah, Inoo-chan needs to come too”, Daiki said, leaning a little forward on his chair so that he could reach to poke Inoo on his shoulder while at the same time trying to keep from looking at Asaka and keep his embarrassment from showing on his face. “Since it’s a special day on the beach you should come choose yourself if there’s something even better, ne~?”
Hasshi was already dragging Takaki with him towards the ice cream stand, not being able to find himself interested in the triangle drama now that there was ice cream available. “Takaki, should we get one reeeeaaaaally big parfait and eat it together?” Hasshi asked, an excited smile on his lips as he turned to look at the boy.
“If we’re sharing, you just end up eating all of it yourself!” Takaki blamed teasingly, not being able to keep himself from grinning. “You like sweet things too much.”
“I won’t eat all of it!” Hasshi said, pouting his lips in a way it was almost impossible for Takaki to try resist kissing him right away.
“I’m just teasing, let’s get a big parfait together”, Takaki then said, pulling Hasshi closer and wrapping one arm around the boy’s waist as they continued heading towards the ice cream stand. Takaki’s head was actually getting some very nice ideas about sharing the parfait, but the sad thing was he couldn’t really do any of those with the others around…
"Isn't that a little bit suggestive, Hasshi?" Kamei asked teasingly, looking at Takaki before meeting Hasshi's eyes while laughing. He would've thought Hasshi knew what kind of ideas Takaki would get at his suggestion of sharing a parfait, but the younger boy seemed to be too excited about eating sweet stuff.
"Suggestive? But isn't it just ice cream?" Fukka asked as he walked with them, looking very confused. Kamei looked over at Fukka for a few seconds before turning away with a small smile, deciding to let Takaki and Hasshi handle it. It wasn't his problem if they were perverts...
“C’mon you two, I don’t want to be the last one to get my ice cream!” Daiki said as he looked after the two pairs already heading towards the ice cream stand. He got up from the chair, taking a hold of Inoo’s hand and pulling the boy up. “Inoo-chan needs to come too…” he said, a small pout on his lips when Inoo was about to say something to decline from going. “Jaa, let’s go?” Daiki turned to take a hold of Asaka’s arm with his other hand, pulling both the boys with him as they headed after the others.
"Hai, let's go," Asaka said, frowning at Inoo from behind Daiki. Inoo was actually really strange, after getting angry like that earlier... now he was being surprisingly meek, not even looking at anything except the sand as Daiki pulled them along. What exactly was Inoo planning...? Asaka pressed his lips together and turned his eyes to the ice cream stand in front of them, where the other four had gathered, and smiled, deciding to forget about Inoo until he actually became a threat again.
