It was my friend, [info]busymind ’s idea. To use her words, it says a lot about a friendship when you will follow your friend to Hell.

Now I’ve never been to Hell before. I’ve felt like hell and had days from hell, but I’ve never BEEN to Hell. Until Saturday.

Hell is an interesting place. There are even signs to direct you there in case you get lost.

We decided to travel to Hell via the waterway. So we drove awhile and unloaded our kayaks at the chain of lakes. Hell is even kind enough to rent canoes and kayaks should you need transport.

It’s true what they say - the way to Hell can be a lot of fun. The day was beautiful and the leaves were changing color.

The lakes were filled with swans.

There was even a tiny little island where Hell’s partiers could hang out. It looked like it was sinking into the water and slightly falling apart but the decor was amusing. There were gargoyles and an angel.

But I guess it was too much for the poor angel.

After kayaking through the chain of lakes our trail ended at Hell, where we stopped for lunch at the Dam Site Inn. As we walked up to the bar, this is what we saw.

We were the only ones in the bar who weren’t in leathers, which was different. But the people were friendly, the food was good and the Halloween decorations were quite fun.

Refreshed, we started our return trip from Hell. Of course, it’s always easier getting to Hell than leaving it. The combination of the flooding and the dam made the current in the channel very FAST. I felt like some kind of Warner Brothers Cartoon as I ferociously paddled and made NO headway whatsoever. With sweat glistening on my brow I trudged on. The boaters that passed us were quite encouraging, saying things like, “That’s a workout” and "I bet you're working up a sweat there." Ya think?

Finally, after much effort we made it out of the channel and were able to paddle in smooth waters and make it back to the park.

All in all, the day was quite fun and  now I can honestly say that I have been to Hell and back again.  ;o)
