Finally, I did some work! At this cool building which is actually a library in disguise. I think I showed that I didn't need to be strapped to my chair after all, I just sat down and didn't move for hours o.o; For nearly the whole day too, except halfway through I skipped off for lunch which was also part of Hari Raya (lest Wilson scold me for not visiting again!) and got Moneys for my efforts and ninja clothes-changing abilities. (And I really think they're damn ninja, omg, sk1llz that k1llz, yo)

A lot of random interesting stuff happened today, actually. Apparently this morning somebody made off with a trolley full of NTUC items, or sth like that. I don't really know how that works. Also on the mrt I saw a chinese(?)-lady-eurasian-guy couple, and she had her arms wrapped around him (on the train, no less), which I closed one eye to and was thinking that they were kinda cute or something, until I realized that what little conversation they were making was... not very intelligent? And something about the way they were behaving just made me think more about the woman Lizzie was talking about last night with the too-short blue 'cheongsam' and her angmoh boyfriend, rather than anything more sincere / non-judge-able. I wonder why I can judge some people so harshly and so immediately, despite my being the generally very agreeable sort. Like Paul's friend last night was, eek, instant judgment, poor guy probably doesn't deserve it either but I tried to explain it to Liz and ahh =/

At some point Terrance let me listen to a beautiful song. The music was really gentle and soothing, the vocals were light caresses down my back, they drew around me to sing a lullaby to my soul. And then he showed me the name of the singer and it was Hee Suhui. O_______O ...hoooolyyyyyy cow????

There was a boy, a sec 4 boy from RI, whom I really wanted to do something for but didn't know how to without embarrassing him. Against my better judgment I reached out anyway, which probably did embarrass him after all, but well I won't say I'd have felt better if he'd accepted my offer because it's his decision, after all! It turned out Daniel knows him, and before I left the library we ended up talking, all the way until I went into the mrt station. That was pretty cool. What I really wanted to say to him, and to any other starry-eyed bespectacled boy or girl out there, is this: a little contemporary thinking. There's no such thing as "the best education". (If you learn econs you'll find that mindset is a cause for structural rigidity. That is, you'll find out if you're taught by someone opinionated and liberal-minded like my econs tutor.) Perhaps people will tell you that you should learn varied things, pick up as many skills as you can. But they won't tell you to do this by breaking out of your 6-year pre-university course. You can get a good education anywhere; what you should be thinking about is whether it's the kind you really want. (Stress levels? Learning environment? Teaching emphasis? Intimacy of relations with tutors / friends?) Make your own decisions, please do, just know that you're getting into something because it was fully your decision made with some awareness of the outside world, and not because it was made for you... before you even started.

As for me, I'm putting the inner workings of my mind out on display, for anyone to laugh at my naivete, but well you never get anywhere if you don't start something.

When I walked back into the library after dinner I met this smiling library officer dude, no idea what he was supposed to be (somebody who makes sure people aren't sleeping?), but at that moment he was standing in front of the lift and as I approached he called it down for me. I don't know where he was from but he was making excellent use of his boredom. He opened the lift door for me and gestured for me to enter, and even said, "Enjoy!" before closing the door for me again. I'm going to be a cool dude like him, someday, and open lift doors for people and creep them out by being overly friendly. Maybe I'll come across another cool dude who won't think I'm weird.

Oh yea btw mrt trains are now the epitome of space maximization. There were only 6 seats per side per section of the carriage, and a massive amount of floor space. One of these days the train will simply be a box with doors and ventilation.</fatalistic>

Clearly it's been what you might call a successful day, because I got to kaypoh into all sorts of things while also somehow managing to do a bit of work. Yay. More work-doing to come tmr, I hope.
