(Warning: wine-soaked posting ahead, so no actual conclusion to be found.)

I've been off-world for a bit. Hi. I'll try to catch up tomorrow. In the meantime, I swiped this from [info]gaelbrady :

Your Word is "Why"

You see life as complicated and intriguing. The only thing you know for sure is that you haven't figured it all out yet.

You question everything and believe very little. And whatever you believe is likely to change.

You are interested in theories, philosophies, and religions... even if you don't buy into any of them.

You are also fascinated by how things work. You'd like to understand as much in the world as possible.

and had to laugh. My "word" isn't a word; it's a question.

For fuck's sake.

So what does this have to do with soup?

I make soup often: it's cheap; it's easy; it's nutritious; it reheats well; it doesn't take a lot of brain power. And often, after having sat for a while to simmer or boil, it looks like a big pot of nothing: there are random elements that float across the surface, sure -- a green leaf here, a slice of orange there -- but for the most part, when you lift the lid, you find a ginormous pot of nothing, just liquid expanse varying in shades of brown or yellow or green or red. Everything with weight or substance or heft has sunk below the surface, buried as deep as it can go. But with just a slight bit of manipulation -- just a single stir -- a single touch -- everything rises to the surface. Suddenly, without warning, that pot of nothing becomes a whole hell of a lot of something, swelling and brimming with stuff you couldn't possibly have predicted. In tonight's case, it's barley, lentils, spinach, and a variety of vegetables, but without that little push, no one could have known what to expect.

So when I received my "word" from the universe -- why -- and then retreated to the kitchen to stir a pot of caramel-colored nothing into a raging pot of something, I just had to laugh a little.

I hope all are well.

Happy belated birthday to [info]quaero_verum !
