Where has all the Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton-size drama gone???????

No, seriously. Besides Jon Gosselin, who is a douchebag, it's like everything's quieted down. No more Britney showing her snatch, she makes solidly catchy music these days. No more Lindsay Lohan, since she broke up with Sam Ronson anyway. All I know is apparently she came out with a line of fugly leggings. Paris Hilton was pretty good in Repo! The Genetic Opera, which was the last time I saw her, although I have no idea when that movie came out. She was crazy. In a good way. I guess?

And then there was Rihanna and Chris Brown, which was incredibly not funny and will not be labeled as drama, since drama implies a cheap gossip rag scandal, at least in my mind. That was serious.

But yeah, I hear from people that these days the biggest thing around to laugh about is how bad Heidi Montag's music is. Random story: I was at a track meet at Occidental when planes started flying around in the air saying CONGRATULATIONS HEIDI AND SPENCER, or something like that. Yep, those two were getting married the same day as our track meet, at some place 15 minutes away or so.

At any rate, I downloaded 3 music albums today. All pop-oriented, all good.

KiD CuDi: Man on the Moon
This album's really cinematic. It starts off rather sad, especially with that awful awful single Day n' Nite (the one about the lonely stoner at night) but the last song, Up Up and Away, is SO happy and SO catchy. I've been listening to it on repeat all day. (After I went through all the albums first)

Here's a link to the song on YouTube, though no official music video is out yet: Up Up and Away (The Wake and Bake Song)

Rihanna: Rated R
There's a lot of allusions to violence, sadness, being who you are and refusing to change. It's definitely a lot darker and angrier, which I don't think is bad at all. Nothing mentions Chris Brown directly, but it takes some effort to interpret the material as having none of its anger directed at him.

There aren't any super catchy songs like Please Don't Stop the Music, and I am not into some of the ballads, but it is overall very solid. I think Good Girl Gone Bad is a better album, but again they're very different, and this one is definitely worth a listen. Hard and Wait Your Turn are my favorite songs. Hard, especially, is very awesome.

Wait Your Turn and Hard have music videos. The one for Hard is very military oriented, the allegory to war being very obvious. I don't have any particular opinion about the one for Wait Your Turn, but I do like it.

Lady Gaga: The Fame Monster
I'm sure you've all heard Bad Romance. The other songs are really good too. They are a little dark but keep the same Lady Gaga kind of glamorous dance pop. Her music videos creep my the fuck out though. Bad Romance is just... *shivers* Those are lovely bones and terrifying dance steps you have there, Lady Gaga. Props to you
