Well, I hugged [info]defyaugury  and [info]geoffcain goodbye on Sunday morning, signaling the end of my holiday plans and activities, and worked a shift at bookstore, and by Sunday night had a cold coming on. I've spent the past four days of my much-anticipated 'vacation' in bed, coughing and sneezing and other such fun. Ah, well.

It's possibly a sign that I let life get too busy sometimes, because it seems whenever I slow down long enough to take some solid downtime, I get sick like this. Happens to me every few years or so. And there are times when I feel I've overdone the stimulation and activity. Dad tells me he gets exhausted just hearing about everything I get up to, or do in a day. But I can't help it, and I can't stop it. I feed on it, for the most part. I NEED the stimulation, the contacts with other people, the feeding of my brain with all sorts of input daily. I think I'm just wired that way.

Since I planned to relax and get a lot of reading done while on vacation, that mission is accomplished. With nothing else to do but cough or sneeze (and one can easily do that with book in hand), I've read about a dozen books this week, seriously reducing the size of Mount TBR. This part of my week has been great! It felt SO good to lose myself in fiction and fantasy and ignore the world for a while.

I was also strangely well-prepared to be home with a cold; the Fates conspired for me there. Had gallons of juice on hand, cold meds, tissues, and in the freezer from all that holiday cooking, gallons of soup. I'm now officially and heartily sick of cream of artichoke, and cioppino, but my freezer is cleared out. [grin] I felt well enough to go out yesterday and restock the larder, plus indulge in a hamburger and fries which I was REALLY craving.

Today, with my system mostly cleared out and my energy restored, I want to either have people over or get outta the house for a while. JRo might have plans with her Ben and so wouldn't say if she'd drop over today, so maybe I'll call Mom to go out with me.

First, need to sacrifice a bottle of wine and start marinating chunks of beef in it, because I SO owe the BIL a batch of Beef Bourgognone (I know, can't spell the darned thing) in exchange for that incredible bookshelf.

Now, I could make a NY Resolution to take life a little easier...but we all know I can't keep it, so why bother, ay?
