[info]isildurs_babe wrote one of my all-time favorite Snupin stories for the Snupin Santa exchage this past December, "Nevermind the Buzzcocks." I love alternative, non-magical reality stories, and I particularly grooved on this one, which set Severus, Remus and the set of whole Marauders' era characters in late 1970s Manchester. Snape makes an intense leader for a punk band. The humor in the story, the sound of the dialogue, the amazing Snape characterization, all just completely blew me away.

That's why I posted a squeeing recommendation to my journal at the time, knowing very well that I have people on my flist who will never read a story with as many spelling and grammar errors as this one had.

As soon as the fest was over, I offered to beta-read the story. It took me ages to gird my loins to tangle with this long story, but it was actually enjoyable to reread it closely. Now [info]isildurs_babe is reposting the story, with the commas rearranged. If there are any remaining spelling or grammar errors, they are because I am not a perfect proofreader, in spite of my background editing non-fiction for publication.

I learned a lot doing this. For example, I learned what "blagged" means. I learned what Irn Bru is. (Scottish soft drink! Answers the question, "What does Snape drink?" admirably.)

Title: Nevermind the Buzzcocks

Summary: In late 70’s Manchester, young straight-edge punk Severus forms a band to emulate his idols, the Sex Pistols. Remus is the blue-haired front man for the band. Remus is a budding writer who tries to render his experience in a variety of genres, including SF, hardboiled detective fiction, and in the style of a young adult fantasy novel about a school for wizards.
