It was gray with a heavy overcast all day today with the temperature pun on the OR coast seems "weird," but today we were in uncharted territory with lots of pretty rocks off the coast - Bandon is just the beginning - and the dismal sky just didn't do them justice.
It didn't rain, though, so there's really nothing to complain about. We made it into Crescent City around maybe 3 pm, and then found our way to Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park where we took a brief hike. This fellow (lady? No antlers, but the research I just did say they don't come in until late spring) suddenly appeared on the trail in front of us, maybe 30 yards away. She (I think I'll assume it's a girl) was wary, but did not immediately bolt. In fact, she dodged back and forth two or three times across the path, and eventually ran a little further towards us before jumping into a deeper part of the brush. (A few yards later we found some more people on the same path - that must be why she wasn't sure where to go. It was pretty close to the day use and camping areas.)
Tomorrow we're going only as far as Eureka, which won't take long at all. I expect we'll find plenty to do between here and there, or perhaps just beyond where I understand there are even more redwoods. This will give us a pretty long drive to SF on Wednesday... oh well!
