When the bell signaling the end of classes rang, students started pouring out of the school like the Jewish being freed from German containment camps. Who could blame them for wanting to get away as soon as possible when the next day they would have their level assessment exam?

"It's that time of the year again." Hiroto and Akiya said at the same time. They looked at each other surprised and started laughing.

"Great minds think alike." said Hiroto.

"Hear, hear." agreed Akiya and the two high-fived. "See you guys tomorrow." he told Shou and Nao and since he and Hiroto lived relatively close, they left together.

"Are you heading home?" Nao asked Shou as they neared the gate in their own pace.

"Yeah, I just need to tell Tora there isn't going to be any tutoring tonight. I have to prepare for the exam and he should as well." Shou responded while looking around the courtyard for his brunette friend.

"So, basically you're saying that if he doesn't prepare he's not going to get any from you, right?"

Shou raised an eyebrow. "Not going to get any what?" Nao stared blankly at him as if Shou had said he was in fact Moses and was sent to Christianize Japan. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Are you for real? And you teased me about my virginity a few days ago. At least I know when people make sexual innuendos."

Shou's eyes widened two times their normal size. "Nao!"

"See what I mean? Sometimes you act like a bigger virgin than me."

Shou blushed furiously and looked away from Nao with a huff. Tora's group of friends standing close to the gate of the courtyard caught Shou's attention and he made his way over to them despite Nao's protests.

"Have you seen Tora?"

It was probably the wrong way to ask them that since Uruha was among them, in all his pride and glory. However, Shou hadn't talked to them all that much so he didn't think it would be appropriate for him to walk up to them and say 'Hey, guys! How are you doing? Feeling ready for the exam tomorrow?'.

Saga wanted to answer Shou's question but Uruha beat him to the metaphorical punch.

"You're the one he spends most of his time with. Why would you be asking us?"

Shou imagined Uruha having a rattling tail behind him, signaling it was dangerous to be around him but the blonde's venomous tone of voice didn't affect Shou anymore.

"What's with the attitude? I'm his best friend and you're his boyfriend – I don't think there needs to be any more explaining."

A brunette Shou remembered as Aoi whistled and with a snarky voice backed Uruha up. "The mouse has grown claws. All those nights of tutoring you've given Tora seem to have had some positive results on you too. I wonder what else he managed to teach you back." Aoi ran his fingers down Shou's cheek and the brown haired senior moved his head away from the touch.

"Listen here, virgin boy. I'm a very jealous person and even though I promised Tora I would try and tolerate you, it's getting harder and harder to do that, what with you doing everything he asks and you managing to get him to bend to your every whim."

Saga moved to get their attention and positioned himself between Shou and Uruha. "Come on, Uruha. That's enough. He's not to blame for anything – be reasonable."

"Reasonable?! Would you feel like being reasonable if someone was getting between you and your boyfriend?"

Saga groaned in irritation and ran his hand through his hair. "He's not getting between you and Tora. He just happens to be Tora's best friend. Jeez!"

"Shou, let's just go." Nao came up next to Shou and tugged his arm, trying to get his friend away before things got really bad. He was glad Saga stood up for Shou but he didn't want anyone to get hurt.

"Get out of the way, blondie, and let them finish discussing." Yomi pulled Saga from in front of Uruha and handed him to Reita and Ruka to keep him from butting in again.

"You're not going anywhere until I make something clear, Pooh boy." Uruha spat and made Nao flinch. "Tora's mine and if I hear one word that you are trying anything, Shou, you'll see how vicious I can really be."

"What's with the gathering? Anything I should know?"

Eight heads turned toward the voice and silence fell over the place the groups was. Tora frowned at the lack of response and approached Shou, who he saw looked away from him the moment they saw each other.

"Do you have anything to tell me, Uruha?"

"We were just talking while waiting for you, that's all." the dirty blonde replied as nonchalant as possible, with a shrug of his shoulders.

Tora looked skeptically at him then at Shou. "I got my motorcycle fixed. Go to the student parking lot and wait for me. I'll catch up in a minute."

Without looking at the brunette, Shou nodded and turned around, leaving and taking Nao with him. After making sure they were out of earshot, Tora frowned at the group that remained.

"What did you tell him?"

"What he needed to be told a long time ago..." began Yomi but he was interrupted by Uruha.

"Drop it, Yomi. What we discussed is between me and him, Tora – nothing more, nothing less. Now, I think you want to get home and study for the exam tomorrow. I won't hold you."

Uruha went to the bench next to the group and picked up his back pack. He came up to Tora and kissed his cheek, after which he said his goodbye and was off. Tora didn't throw a second glance to the others as he turned around and went to the student parking lot to get his motorcycle and take Shou home.

Nao was almost out the parking lot gate after Shou and Tora had left when he heard someone calling him. Turning around, he saw Saga jogging his way.

"Hey, are you alright? I'm sorry for what happened back there." Saga said when he caught up to the shorter senior.

"I'm fine and you don't need to apologize for your Neanderthal friends. I appreciate the fact that you stood up for Shou." Nao smiled.

Saga returned the smile and was glad Nao was still able to be a bit cheery. "Want me to take you home?"

The other student shook his head. "It's alright, thank you. I can walk."

"Come on, you do live my way." Saga pushed.

Nao was surprised to hear that. "I do?"

"Yeah." Saga nodded. "I guess I forgot to mention it a few days ago when I took you home the first time. Come on, I have my motorcycle." Saga put his arm around Nao's shoulders so the shorter senior couldn't refuse him again and was surprised to feel he was shaking a little. It wasn't cold but the blonde didn't think for one minute Nao was shaking because of that. "This was the first time you witnessed such a harsh exchange of words, huh?" he asked Nao as they walked to the motorcycle.

Nao stared off into space, holding the helmet Saga had offered him in his hands. "Why do you stay with them?"

Saga sighed. That was the one question he didn't want to be asked at that moment. "Sometimes I ask myself that same thing. I never manage to get a straight answer out of myself."

He felt safe. Holding onto Tora's middle, his chest glued to the brunette's back and being shielded by his friend from the wind that would hit his uncovered head offered Shou a great sense of safety that he thought would apply to anything. At least he thought it would apply to anything until today.

He wasn't one to cower before somebody who threatened him but he saw in Uruha's eyes that the dirty blonde indeed hated him with all his being and was capable of anything to stick to his word.

Shou shivered unconsciously and, either because he was too absorbed in his thoughts or because of the roaring of the motorcycle engine, he didn't hear Tora when the brunette asked him if he was cold.

When they arrived in front of Shou's house, the brown haired teen didn't want to lessen his hold on his friend. Tora sighed and gently pried Shou's hands apart. When he felt he no longer was holding onto the brunette, Shou got off the motorcycle and thanked Tora for the ride.

"What did Uruha tell you?"

Tora voice was so gentle he thought he would actually tell him what the blonde had said but Shou then thought Tora would confront Uruha about it and, of course, Uruha would deny everything and would say whatever he could to make Tora think Shou wanted to ruin their relationship. Okay, maybe he was getting a little paranoid but he didn't know Uruha that well. Who's to say the blonde wouldn't try and do just that?

"Shou?"

He shook his head to get any last nasty thoughts out of his head and smiled at Tora. "It's nothing. He was just babbling. Don't worry about it."

Tora opened his mouth to protest to Shou keeping things from him but he didn't manage to get anything out before Shou said what he had initially wanted, what got him into that mess. Could fate have been trying to tell him something?

"I can't tutor you tonight. Tomorrow's the level assessment exam and I want to be sure I'm ready. You should do the same."

"Okay." Tora nodded. "How about tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow we'll continue where we left off. Sounds good?"

Tora nodded and Shou smiled. Seeing him back to his perky self so fast made Tora believe that what Shou and Uruha talked about really wasn't important.

"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow then. Bye."

Shou went inside and Tora pulled his motorcycle in the garage attached to his own home – there was no need to start it up again for a few meters. With one last look at Shou's bedroom window, he went up to his own room and got ready for the exam the next day.
