Danny & I got up real early today to get a couple of things done while it was still cool outside. Luckily it wasn't smokey. He let the dog out to roll in the grass and keep us company. She was so good. Stinky, but good. We were able to finally cut the dead limbs out of the Stewart Pecan tree. We moved them to the brush pile in the woods, or at least he did. I'm not going in there with snakes!...
This afternoon Dan came home with some orphans. It seems that they were getting ready to throw out some White Bush Acorn Squash that had apparently seen better days. The plants are about 6 inches high and have faded out to almost white stems from (I suppose) a lack of sunlight. Very strange. There were actually 4 plants in the 3 cells; I separated the two that were together and ...
It seems like it’s been a while since I’ve done much more than water. Yesterday Danny came home with some red/pink Celosia . I quickly planted them in the deck flower box. It was so nice and a pleasant surprise. We checked the tomatoes this morning, but only found 2 worms. I can see by the droppings there were a lot before Dan discovered them. The Mayflies are late ...
I've just been maintaining around here. Watering things when dry and droopy. The tomatoes are kicking as are the squash and zuchinni . The little cucumber close to the greenhouse is finally making a run for it; I now have full confidence that it will actually produce something before the summer is over. Yeah! One of the transplanted cucumbers has died all together and the other is ...
The cucumbers and zucchini in the planter box have spots on them. It looks like a mold of some kind. I'm sure it's because it's too wet and shady over there. Then again, Dan told me when he brought the cukes home that they were getting rid of them because they were "sickly." I've replanted them in the sandy soil in the circle. I guess I have nothing to lose by trying! After moving ...
Today I'm off work for Memorial Day. I have time to start moving bricks. We have this Crepe Myrtle tree in the front yard that we put bricks around. They're stacked 5 rows high and the bottom ones have sunk into the ground. The mote around the tree is nothing but weeds after a few Bluebells bloom in the early spring. Hostas and free-roaming Mimosa Tree sprouts fill the rest of the area. It...
Here's what's growing. I moved the 2 roses to the herb garden to see what they'd look like there. I think they may get too big for that area. I need to finish getting the border done. Maybe I can start on that Sunday The garden is kicking ass. I need to take the peppers out of the black guards, they have grown and filled them ...
We watched a poor little bird checking out the water feature that was in the herb garden yesterday. She wasn't too impressed. You must be made aware of the fact that this isn't really a birdbath. It's a hard plastic type molded plant stand we picked up at a thrift store some time ago. Near the bottom, on one side, it even has a 3" hole in it (probably why it was at the thrift store). ...
Isn't this the loveliest tuberous begonia you ever saw? Danny brought it to me yesterday from work. saying when he saw it he thought of me. Little did he know that I've always wanted one. They're usuallyexpensive which is why I've never gotten one before. Thank goodness for employee discounts! LiveJournal Tags: begonia
We were lucky, luckier than some in North Carolina. Tornados came down. Here, we lost power. Here my little tomatoes wished they still had the black cylinders around them. We'd changed to the wire cages already. They are a little bruised and looked terrible this morning, leaning over and looking bedraggled. This afternoon they have straightened themselves out and seem to be embracing ...
