I am very inspired after reading this article:
5 Things Super-Happy Couples Do Every Day(Source: http://www.redbookmag.com/love-sex/advice/super-happy-couples-ll-2)
Let me share my personal experience:
1. Communication, communication, communication. It's vital.
Every night, the husband and I spend quality time together. First, we will meet at my parent's place after work for a nice dinner with everybody. Then, we walk out and take the train home. The trip to home takes about an hour and we would take this precious time to update each other about work, and everything else.
2. Give each other "me" time.
When we reached home, he would usually spend his time doing his stuff, like checking the mails, making online payments and doing some reading. Occasionally, he would play online games. While he's doing all that, I would be spending time searching in my closet and picking out outfits for the next day. Or I would be watching my favourite shows on the television.
On Sundays, he would spend the morning swimming with his pals while I do the laundry and cook up a storm in the kitchen.
3. Never get too upset with each other for too long.
We usually give each other space and time to cool down when things get heated up. After an hour or so, we will start talking again, shared our feelings and thrash things out. After that, we move on. We learnt this trick from the kids. Kids never stay angry for long, don't they? They forget things fast and they move on and that's an amazing ability to have.
4. Date each other.
We still try to behave as if we are still in the courtship period. Every Friday is date night. We would make plans to watch a great movie together. After which, we will go for supper.
5. Be each other's best friend.
We are each other's best friend. When I have a piece of great news to share, he's the first person whom I want to call immediately. Ditto for him.
6. Tell your spouse you miss him/her.
We do that everyday, during the working hours. He would call and see how I am doing during his lunch break. I send him short text messages telling him I miss him every now and then.
It's sweet. Everybody loves to feel important and feel loved.
