Easy.
Actually, despite training for the same event, [info]teambaraka  and I have not run together too often this summer (sure, a wickedly fun downhill repeats workout last weekend, the first half of a long run the weekend before ... but I think that's about it since Spring? Winter?) We both had a 10 mile short long run on our respective schedules for today and met at Barton Springs Pool for an easy 10 around Lady Bird (nee Town) Lake, chatting, her seemingly knowing and greeting every 2nd person by name. A nice run. Easy.

And not so Easy.
[info]teambarakais not easy; she's not that kind of girl
I tried and tried, tried hard, but I could not talk [info]teambaraka  into removing her shirt at the back of my parked car in the pitch-black parking lot!

We'd been talking earlier in the week about dehydration, water loss on runs (and its effects), so I thought it'd be fun to actually do a sweat rate test again. I pretty much constantly monitor my weight, pre-workout, post-workout to see what state of dehydration I'm in, but hadn't recently taken exact measurements. I usually keep my scales in the garage anyway, to measure myself pre- and post- 'hood runs or rides from home. I popped the scales into the trunk and had them ready at Barton Springs Pool parking lot when [info]teambaraka  arrived. A sweat rate test calls for weighing yourself before and after a timed workout, bistromathing the fluids consumed during that time (yes, and, I suppose, bathroom visits) and getting a sweat rate (the sweat rate calculator I still use is the one that [info]anricat  's Roger made for her/them). Ideally, one doesn't want to weigh sweat soaked shoes, shorts, shirt, socks post-run, so, again ideally, one doesn't want to weigh that clothing dry beforehand either. Hence, ideally, a "near naked" weigh-in pre- and post-. The neekeder the better, scientifically speaking, you understand.

"Shoes off"

"h-okay"

"Are you wearing a jog-bra under there?"

"Uh?"

"T-shirt off"

"No!"

"You really should ... to get accurate numbers"

"No"

"Oh, go on, just quickly ..."

"No"

"Oh, please ..."

Wasn't happening! I probably never had any moves back in the day anyway, whatever I may have possessed gone rusty, never had any wiles. But it was clear I wasn't going to talk that shirt into coming off. C'est la vie. Recover, maintain dignity and move on.

She was a nice round number, Xlbs (rounder on my scales than hers at home). Maybe a smidge under. Immediately after the run X-2lbs. During the 102 mins run we'd both consumed ten of those RunTex water-stop cone-cups, each 4oz. -- a total of 40oz of water. For drinks at the water fountain/s I had carried our cone cups, nested, my finger stuck in mine to hold them, so that we could accurately measure our fluid intake there as well (no, I didn't accompany her into the restroom to measure fluid outflow too, we both drew the line there). So, 4 water stops, over the course of 11 miles, over 102 mins, drinking 40oz, left her 2lbs lighter, so 32oz shortfall of fluid. Next time: drink more, nearly double.

Me? My numbers? I don't have them. Or, at least, I have numbers, am somewhat disbelieving of them, will try again another time, but mainly I can't remember my pre-run weight, nor whether I was wearing shoes for the weigh-in. But it looks like I lost way more than 2lbs! And that's OK, I usually drink what I drank today plus one and partial refills of my CamelBak waist-pack 28oz's so I knew today I'd be running a deficit. :(

geek-o-meter stats:
1:42 mins, 10.8 miles, 9:30 min/mile, 110 bpm HR, 1450 calories.
