Yeah, this wasn't one of Vanessa's better concerts and I cite three reasons for this:
1) She was the second act in a 3-artist bill and technically still an opener 2) The majority of the crowd wasn't there for her so I was surrounded by non-fans 3) Her set was very short
Here's the setlist:
1. White Houses 2. Hands On Me 3. A Thousand Miles 4. Who's To Say 5. Half a Week Before the Winter 6. Heroes & Thieves 7. Nolita Fairytale 8. Home 9. More Than This
Home was the highlight of the night because I was finally able to hear that incredible outro in person. Hearing it gave me goosebumps. Who's To Say was another favorite, as it always is. Half a Week was a nice surprise. The first opener (Alexa Wilkinson) came out and played the trumpet, that was cool. Vanessa had a violinist and a guitarist with her and later an upright bass player and a guy beating on "drums" came out during Nolita.
She was wearing this sparkly top and a very short skirt. I don't understand why anyone would wear something that short knowing that the people close to the stage will get a bird's eye view of that. I will say that she has long great legs.
Alexa was okay, her music's pretty similar to a lot of up-and-coming female singer/songwriters right now. Her studio stuff is better compared to the live stuff because she didn't have a drummer with her. A drummer really makes a big difference, imo, if you want to gain new fans but I digress. I didn't bother staying for Joshua Radin (the headliner...has anyone actually heard of this guy's music before? How is he more famous/successful than Vanessa?) because I find his music to be mellow and boring (sorry if you're a fan).
I didn't bother taking pictures because I didn't have a good view of Vanessa. Bring on the headlining tour (please)! |
