Edmonton and community. Two words rarely seen together, a bit like Jodie Marsh and clothes, but i digress.
This morning was spent at 'The Big Heap', the first of compost giveaways held by Enfield Council at Firs Farm Playing Fields. As we turned into the car park on the grounds at 10am, thinking only a few people would be there so early, when we were met by a long queue. and more queues...... The compost had been supplied by LondonWaste, who have a compost centre in London, and had been made from the organic waste collection from the North London households. What was great about this event, were the members of the public who offered to help the volunteers shoval the compose into the bags (see below) and also the general jovial atmosphere, people talking to each other about their gardens, complaining about the rain or other events going on in and around Enfield. As mum and i spoke to one of the volunteers, a friendly elderly lady, i tried not to laugh as she told my mum she would raise an idea my mum had about fund-raising, at their next Compost Committee meeting, can you imagine how exciting those meetings must be?! And the end results? Despite being grumpy about waiting in the rain for 40 minutes, it was worth it for my packet of free sunflower seeds and four bags of free organic compost to use on our garden.
