Over the next couple of weeks/ months, I'll be updating with completed versions of the _stains I'm doing for the RAINN foundation. I'll be discussing each piece in detail, both about the song and its meaning to me as well as the people whom I feel have shaped the pieces. I hope that by doing so, the pieces can become more fully fleshed. While intended to be used for the healing of others, those closer to the heart of this need some healing as well. Unraveling the complex tapestries that were forces behind their creation can certainly help, too. I hope that everyone enjoys themselves on this journey as much as I have, and I am most certain that I will.

Music is to integral to the creative process for most of the visual artists I know. Most of whom I have talked to experience the same phenomenon: music that they listen to creates little images in their minds. I get mini music videos if the song has the right kind of power. Other times I just get feelings and colours. Either way, I'm learning more and more than some people see art and hear music. We of the visual variety hear music and make art. I think that's why I paint musicians the most, especially those whose music affects me in ways words cannot describe. That's why I like painting portraits from songs: I want to be able to paint the way that the music sounds. The way that I hear the music is the way that I want my painting to look.
