So I've been thinking about books... original and such... characters and what is popular and what's been done a thousand times already.

I know not making much sense right? Bahh... me and sense making are not of the good friends right now.

But anyways. I've been thinking about original characters... and all the things that have and haven't been done over and over and over again.

So yes... original characters. A friend of mine suggested that I try to write what I'm interested in. All the novels and T.V. shows that I enjoy span between two genres. The Supernatural and Crime-Investigative type things. There's no... middle ground for me. Once in awhile I'll find books that span the genre's linking them together like Kim Harrison's Witch series.

But then I started thinking about... what characters have and haven't been done, what plot lines have and haven't been done... to death... sometimes literally.

The only thing I've been able to come up with so far? There doesn't seem to be anything remotely resembling a well adjusted hero/heroine. If you think about it... anyone with superpowers... that has had some form of super power (yes even Buffy) has struggled under the weight of them... they've had to hide, lie, and evade, to keep people from finding out the truth. The ones that are discovered are usually... tested on... their loved ones used against them... it's the... reason for their secret identities.

So how could you create a well adjusted super hero (witch, werewolf, vampire, slayer, ect.) and still have a plot line? 98% of the plot lines involving these type of people have them dealing with the pain and conflict of who and what they are. So where's the plot... the conflict in having a well adjusted heroine? Where's the story?

I wouldn't want to be pedestrian *grins* like everyone else, I mean... what's the point? If you're writing something that's been written a thousand times before?

I keep hearing her in my head... she wants to come out but when I actually put my fingers to the keyboard... I've got... nothing... I get blank face and stare at the screen for a couple of hours before I give up. I'm still working through the problem of who and what she is... what she could be... where the conflict would be if she really is well adjusted (well as well adjusted as any of us are)

Which made me think... what if she's not? What if her not being well adjusted doesn't come from having to hide what she is... but from the every day stuff we all deal with. *thinks some more*

Bah. I'm not sure the ramble helped at all.
