Judging by the tight polls, a lot of voters still aren't sure what to make of Barack Obama's "Change we can believe in" - but we do know this: Obama believes in the word "change."
Reading through the text of Obama's stump speech in Chester, PA yesterday (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/10/obama_on_the_stump_in_chester.html), one will note that he used his favorite word 19 times.
(Oddly enough, Obama also used "change" exactly 19 times in speeches in Ohio and Colorado in the past week. These were not identical speeches.)
To be fair, the senator used to be much more versatile. Earlier in his campaign, he used the words "hope" and "future" nearly as frequently as "change." His supporters could easily chalk up the omission of these words to campaign fatigue - or perhaps a narrowed focus of his "refined policies." Nonetheless, Obama continues to bank on his belief that "change" will be enough to get him to the White House - no matter what that "change" may encompass. It's somewhat surprising that, to this point, Obama hasn't asserted that "change" is his middle name - since we're not allowed to use his real one.
