Yes, whee, more drabbles. First try - I don't read the manga nor watch the anime, I've only seen the movies, but anime/manga Light and L (in the pictures I've seen) seem to have fascinated me so anyway. Inspiration gives me the most unexpected things at the strangest moments.

The way L says his name is always slow and lazy, laced always with that whimsical, child-like fancy and mischief that seems to sway in between playful and sly. And Light hates it. Hates the way L is constantly able to remind him that he isn't toying with a mere child, hates the way those round ebony doll-eyes bore into him so innocently and yet so watchfully, like a silent gleeful taunt (I know what you're UP to), hates the way those syllables roll off his tongue gumdrop by gumdrop.

Rai--to--kun.

And Light hates it, but responds the same, with a charming cheshire smile that betrays none of his intent.

"Yes?"

One day he'll kill him. One day he'll get the better of him, see past those disgusting doe eyes to analyse the plans and workings behind them in that eccentric genius mind of his and thwart them all as easily as he conquers those white chess pieces on the board (slowly, smoothly, one by one). One day. And soon.
