It's been sort of a day of random bits and fragments coming together to form something that vaguely resembles a cohesive unit. There was class, and there was an utter disaster of a clarinet lesson, and there was the half hour Quinn and I spent silently loathing each other while Hild prattled on in the background about balance and orchestral style, and there was more class, and there was Singers (I am a mezzo soprano and dammit, you will accept the fact), and there was band. And then there was the slightly schizophrenic conglomeration of people and events that usually constitutes dinner (I think scaring Tristan has become a new hobby, oddly enough), and then there was homework and homework and more homework, and I really should drag my lazy arse down to Scheide and practice sometime soon, but with four instruments that need attention... I think I'd rather sit here and ramble.

Mostly I just don't want to think about... well, a lot of things. Life has slowly returned to normal (whee making Tristan shriek like a little girl and dive out of the way is fun, I wonder how he'll react when Chaela and I do our creepy tandem laughter thing) but there's one more thing I have to do. Two more, really. One will hurt me and the other already has. I should have known from the start, in both cases. Sometimes I like people too much, sometimes I don't like them enough.

Note to self: Ask Mackenzie to send me her techno bagpipes rendition of "Scotland the Brave." Having a techno remix of the school anthem would be amazing.

The last two days I've had the strange desire to knit. The only project I'm currently working on is that turquoise scarf I started over the summer, and I can't remember the pattern. I tried to do it from memory last night while I was in Kendra and Ann's room (with George breathing down my neck because he is apparently fascinated by the whole knitting process) but it was a bit of a disaster.  I'm going to have to ask my sister to look it up for me, I'm pretty sure it's in one of my many knitting books.Oh, Kendra knits left-handed... I am intrigued and slightly jealous. My aunt taught me how to do it right-handed because she is right-handed herself, and while it's become second nature to me, it's never felt entirely natural. And I need to go shopping with Kendra and Frances to start choosing materials for Chaela's birthday present, because I know it's going to take me two months to finish it. Actually, I already have some of what I need, because I apparently can't even walk through the tiny craft section at Wal-mart without buying something. Oh, and George wants a scarf. He wants it to be a rainbow scarf. As much as the idea entertains me (because him wearing a rainbow scarf around campus is like me wearing my I PLAY CLARINET SHIRT around Scheide. On that note, never again will I wear it to a band rehearsal, because most people don't understand sarcasm. Roommate, your former roommate has a very loud voice that carries across an entire football field, just so you know. I'm beginning to see why you moved out on her), I'm not sure I have the time or the energy for it. But if it's for George, I'll gladly grin and bear it. And I like bright colors these days a lot more than I usually do. Not quite sure why. And you know me, I am physically incapable of refusing a trip to the local craft store. Especially when it means I will have new shinies to knit.

Sometimes I feel like a slightly hyperactive magpie.

"We had proper apocalypses in those days."
